We both know that that's impossible. John 7:39 clearly shows that the OT prophets we're not infilled with the Holy Ghost, at least not in the same way as it is given today.

Peter said that the Spirit of Christ was in THEM...the prophets. The Spirit of Christ is the Holy Ghost.

But, your scripture that you are using to offset the words of Peter seems to be misunderstood.

The Holy Ghost was NOT yet given, except in a few cases as you already noted. However, it had been 400 years since there was a prophet in the land. So, the Word is true...there was no Holy Ghost yet. It was not yet given. 400 years...imagine THAT! 400 years. That would be like us looking back here in America to the days right BEFORE the Pilgrims came to America. If we had not heard from God since BEFORE the Pilgrims here in America, we would ALSO say that the Holy Ghost is NOT yet given to us. But, our perspective sometimes skew the meaning of the Word...in my opinion.

But, we know that the Prophets had the Holy Ghost. The scriptures do not lie.

400 years. That's a awful long time.

Nevertheless, the Holy Ghost is give us for many reasons one of which is to convict us of sin. There is none on this forum that has had the Holy Ghost for any great length of time that has not sinned. They have. But God graciously granted them, as He did you and I, sweet repentance.

When one refuses to repent as seen in their continual back and forth from sin to grace, from grace to sin, from sin to grace...on and on, there comes a time that the Holy Ghost will leave seeing that "if we SIN WILFULLY. There is no longer any repentance. (Heb 10:26 onward) That person is turned over to a reprobated mind filled with so much darkness that they CANNOT be saved, unable to find repentance.

But, I've seen people's confidence thrown away because they were told that because they sinned that they no longer had the Holy Ghost. They should not be taught that, in my opinion. Heb. 10:35 teaches us to NOT cast away our confidence. Ths is often done because of a sense of hopelessness.

To continue to wilfully live in sin John says that such a person is of the devil. This is seen in I Jn 3:8 by the use of the word "committeth," which means to wilfully continue in sin. In truth, there is no Holy Ghost abiding in one who persists in their sin.

While it may appear that it is so because folks have been discovered in sin who were singing or preaching Word, we must understand that they are operating under head knowledge...not Spirit anointing or blessing.

When ever the anointed WORD is brought forth, there will be results, even though the vessel is shipwrecked.

However, some things just do not have to have Scripture and verse to support them.

It boggles the mind how in the ever loving world one imagine the sweet presence of the Almighty abiding where deception and lasciviousness reign.

People get the Holy Ghost all the time without being baptized. By this logic, your sins would have to be forgiven before baptism in confession/repentance.

I have had the Holy Ghost for many years. In those many years, I have sinned. Yet, I can testify that the Holy Ghost was not taken from me. Thankfully, He prodded me to repentance. I am happy that the grace of God granted me that repentance.

Amen and this is true- you don't lose the gift that God has given you because you sin. Often times the gift of the Spirit enables you to be convicted more so you will be more sensitive to the sin.

I would not call the Holy Ghost an "it."

The Holy Ghost is "he," who is Christ within.

We should learn to become atuned to the Jesus within rather than trying to be atuned to the physical Jesus who is imagined to be located somewhere beyond the stary sky. He, the Spirit of Truth, the Jesus within, will lead, you, guide you, speak to you, tell you all things and teach you all things IF you seek to become acquaited with and atuned to the CHRIST JESUS WITHIN YOU.

It is Christ IN YOU...your hope of all things. Not an "it." 'HE'
