Seriously though, sometimes it relieves that burden someone is carrying and I have no problem with that.
Unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do? I don't think so.

I'm not understanding.
For example:
Someone tells me some situation they have in their life and they ask me to pray. I say I will.
So in service the pastor or whoever is taking prayer requests asks if anyone has an "unspoken request". I raise my hand indicating "yes".
How is someone praying for an unspoken prayer request ... possibly not even knowing who the person is who has the need ..... going to be more effective than me - who knows what the need is and knows who the person is - praying for that individual?
We're off topic a bit here I know .... but I've always thought it was kind of useless.

I don't think it's useless, Felicity. I've prayed things like, "God, please take care of whatever __________ needs; You know and she knows." Surely there is greater strength in that, just adding another prayer? God does know what "it" is, so....
I see your point, but I don't think its entirely pointless.

Felicity,
Like I said, it is honoring the person who has asked for the request and it is lifting that personal, private request before God. I am intervening in prayer, who knows that request best and, yes, I am the one that is going to be more effective in praying for them. Although, I don't discount that there are others who would catch that burden and pray with me - much like RevRandy said he would do.
You thought foot washing was useless too, but I have found it was and is an awesome experience. I've always loved it.

Re: Terrible News and the Importance of Accountabi
Mark, the Bible says confess your faults one to another, not your sins. A fault is a weakness, if people had someone confidential to confess a weakness to before it became a sin, it would be very helpful.
My husband has 4 men of God in his life that he is accountable to, he has submitted to them and told them he faults and if at anytime they need to correct him, he takes it, knowing they are watching out for his ministry

I said "kind of" useless. Kind of. Hehe.
I know what you're saying.
So hey, I have an unspoken prayer request. Pray for me?

Well, that's fine. Keep up the footwashing if you love it and you find it meaningful. I have no problem with the practice if people want to do that.
