The old bell I'll never forget for it woke me up every morning for four years. Once I tied 300 ft of fishing line to it and rang it at midnight from my room. When they checked who might be out of the dorm we were sleeping "sweetly" in our beds. We just pulled hard on the line and broke it so that it was never traced to our room! I remember how Sister Duck could "liven" a service up with her anointed testimony. She didn't have a voice for singing but she could bring the power down! I remember riding an old church bus full of young people driven by my uncle Jerry when we went around singing Christmas carols. I still see us stopping by the Ducks house and dropping off Pearly and then stopping at the Brodhels and dropping off their daughter Carol. Just some old photos of the mind and memory that are stored away until something jogs your recollection.

"Pete" was a great girl! She was of the same strength and character as her mother and aunts, the "Savage" girls. Strong! Very strong!!! But loving and loved God. I believe Pete could have whipped any of the boys around at that time and you always wanted her on your side. Since I was roommate to her cousin I was always in her good graces. She would drop in on us on weekends and inspect our room. [ no girls allowed but we slipped her in along with her little brother Jackie.] She would look at us when she left and would say, "You boys try to be good!" She knew that we needed the warning. Pete left everyone way too soon. Good memories!

Your post brought me to tears, Elder...Crystal had much to do with me being saved today.
When she passed, I couldn't attend the service, but sent a telegram that Bishop read...

Re: I remember when...
My favorite evangelist when I was a teenager was a lady named Lodema Spurlock. I don't know whatever happened to her. She was a tall, lanky, single gal who could preach up a storm, but she was hilarious. We all loved her!
Sherri - I'm probably now doing this right but here goes. I 've so enjoyed this thread. I had to register to tell you I know Lodema Spurlock and she is now helping out in a church in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been there for several years. I lived in a trailer with her and several other girls in Bible School. I saw her a couple of years ago and she is still the same. She sings and preaches just like always.
I did not grow up in this either but I was invited by a friend from school to attend a youth revival with Bro Dan Scott. Received the HG that night. I remember listening to "Harvestime" in my dad's car. That was the only place I could pick it up.

Welcome to AFF...I have enjoyed this thread, too.
It is interesting to see the many things we all have in common from our past...things that we may have thought were localized inventions/traditions, come to find out the whole world was doing them.

Re: I remember when...
I watched Dottie Rambo on TV along with the Happy Goodman's the music and
Dottie's and Vesta's big hair. Remember seeing Dottie at GC in the late 60s and being awe struck.
Revival and church services where the windows were always open.
Sis Willie Johnson, a black lady who always wore a white dress and a black cape. She could preach the house down. Flapping her cape and putting the fear of God in all the young people.

I'm so glad you told me this about Lodema!!! I haven't seen her for over thirty years. I think she was maybe from Pennsylvania originally, but I could be wrong. I'm glad to know that she's alive and well. So she never married?

I have an old LP of the Carl Denny family and Dottie and Buck are playing their guitars on it...

Re: I remember when...
Barb - we always felt so little and so isolated. These are good memories that have
sustained me through the years. The Lord never changes - but we do.

Re: I remember when...
Sherri - she never married and she has never changed one bit. I believe she is the
secretary for the PA Ladies group.
