IMO this particular argument doesn't hold a lot of water because, while the english translation chosen was the word replenish, the original hebrew word doesn't seem to hold any connotation of REplenishing above simply filling.

The word seems to simply mean to fill, complete, satisfy etc and, unless someone can share some other information I have not yet come across, carries no real connotation that this word means to REfill rather than simply meaning to FILL the earth.
But... these are just my thoughts.
