H1, I know exactly where they come from. I grew up a white kid in the Deep South. I heard with my own ears the racism in my own family.
That is no excuse for not rising about your station in life.
I also lost everything when I was 14. I went from being one of the wealthiest families in my community to being forced to move 380 miles from the place of my birth.
We left a 3800 square foot house and moved into a 900 sq ft. apartment. I lost every friend I knew and a youth group over 100 for a new town with weird people and a new youth group of 6.
My mom had been at home all my life and now, she was at work and at 15 I had to cook dinner, keep the house, and baby sit a 12 year old baby sister who was telling my parents that we moved because they hated her.
I joined the Navy because my parents could not afford to support me. I had no choice but to get out of their way.
Now my parents have recouped much of what was lost, and I have worked my tail off to live a good life.
In 1995 when I got married I made $5,000 that year. While we are far from wealthy, my wife and I have worked hard to provide a good life for our children.
On top of that I am dyslexic and ADHD (diagnosed before they used the term ADHD). I had a double major of History and English in college and a GPA of 3.0
When anyone gives me some junk about how their life prevents them from being successful, or how the government owes them something or starts to whine about how bad their life is and how someone else needs to fix it for them, I get a bit bent.
I believe in helping people. I do not believe in expecting someone else to do for you because your circumstance isn’t perfect.
Sorry for the rant. you can have the soap box back. I know you agree with me, it just needed to be said.
