I am not against Jewelry and if I were married, I would wear a ring and preferrably w/diamond. I found I hated the feeling of a bracelet ... can't hardly wear a watch... they drive me crazy... so this sure isn't hard for me to follow the standard. Can't hardly tolerate the hair issue....but wouldn't care if I ever put on a peice of jewelry again in my life... interesting on how that stuff works... we are all different and have different walks with God.
With me, adornment goes further than just jewelry, but to anything that brings attention.. it is the pride that goes with it. I only found this by trial and error as it should be... but could never place my convictions on others.

I pretty much stopped wearing a watch after I quit working in nursing homes, as I always had to wear one then. And it was not ornamental at all.......lol
I have blah hair, even when it's clean and shiny. I am not gonna put those extension things in it though, I have seen someone getting them and it looked painful. I am not one to tell others how to live their lives, other than I don't like to see half naked people in town, Wal Mart seems to attract them the most. God knows my heart and theirs too. I am not going to change anyone but I can pray God will if they need changing. It starts inside anyway, my main desire is that my heart is clean and I have a right spirit.

Oh, come on. You and Ferd both acting like there's something silly about the responses on this thread! LOL!
How would you respond to a thread that quoted a passage about Nazarite vows, and then was titled, "Women COMMANDED to cut their hair!" ????
Most of us already know how OP feels about jewelry, or have a general idea based on his overall theology. And it is obvious with the passage quoted and the title that this conversation is precisely what he was going for.

Ornaments? Why does one need them?
Because a woman says "I want to look "attractive!" "I want to be "noticed!"
Men are just as prone to this as well.
1 Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jo 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jo 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.

You guys are missing my point, entirely.
I asked what "ornaments" were defined as in scripture, and the word "jewelry" never even came up.
My point is this - if a person says "I don't think it's wrong to wear a watch and a wedding ring, but anything else is ornamental" that's fine! It's a personal preference, and I respect that.
However, to take a scripture that obviously encompasses MUCH more than jewelry, as OP posted, and try to make it a Biblical edict against jewelry ALONE, is absolutely incorrect, in my opinion.
Oh, not just jewelry, but anything other than a watch and a wedding ring.
And, the watch can be gold and diamond, but it's functional.

Re: Folks COMMANDED to Remove Ornaments.
Let's look at some scriptures from The Complete Jewish Bible.
Likewise the women, when they pray, should be dressed modestly and sensibly in respectable attire, and not with elaborate hairstyles and gold jeweley,or pearls,or expensive clothes.Rather they should adorn themselves with what is appropiate for women who claim to be worshipping God,namely good deeds.1 TIM 2:8,9,10 CJB
Your beauty should not consist in externals such as fancy hairstlyes, gold jewlery, rather let it be the the inner character of your heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit. 1 Peter 3:3,4
I do believe that most folks go overboard in the jewlery department.
However to me these verses are not an absolute prohibition agains't wearing anything gold.
To me these verses seem to be saying that women should let their real beauty not come from merely external adornment, but that it should come from a gentle and quiet spirit.
To me if wearing anything gold is wrong, then putting on of apparel,or styled hair is wrong as well.
Ok how much do the sisters spend on conference clothing? Or the men on a suit to wear to GC ? Are they wearing costly apparel ?
Also don't alot of the Sisters have fancy hairdos with all of that weaving and twisting ?
Or what about all of the wild shoes the sisters wear to a GC ?
Of course we should dress modestly and carry our selves in a Holy Fashion if you will.

And you mine.
Jewelry has no other purpose than to attract attention to ones self otherwise what use is it to wear?
If one is trying to wear something to attract attention to ones self then it is time to ask, "Why?"

Oh, for goodness sake. You could say the same thing about a pretty dress. My husband takes me shopping several times a year, and let's me pick out pretty much whatever I want. I not only pick out what I think looks the BEST on me, but I wear it because my husband bought it for me.
Now, on principle, am I doing that to "attract attention to [my]self?"
Or am I just looking pretty and taking advantage of my husband's generous nature?
Sometimes folks act like its a sin to look nice. Do you think that if I walk through the grocery store on Sunday after church in a nice suit and heels that I don't attract any attention? If for no other reason than I'm dressed up!

Re: Folks COMMANDED to Remove Ornaments.
What functions do neckties really serve? I mean you can get by without wearing one.
Also too would not groups like the Amish be bringing undo attention to themselves by wearing such plaintive clothing ? Or would women wearing high-heels be drawing undue attention to themselves ? A balance is needed.
