How is it more in keeping with modest living to drive a Cadillac you were given than to drive a Cadillac you worked hard to earn the money to pay for? *confused*

Re: Folks COMMANDED to Remove Ornaments.

I think without reading the last few posts I can say that it is not so much what we give it is what we have left over after we give that really determines the size of the gift in the eyes of God.

No I am seriously thinking about that, maybe not selling it, but not wearing it.
I have been reading a lot about not being a stumbling block, wow there are a lot of things I could give up. God is very gentle in dealing with my heart.

I agree that we are to focus on the inward more than the outward. Which, IMO, is the point of the passage you are referring to.
Good to see we agree on something LOL!

Personally, and this is just me, I would never buy a Cadillac. I would never buy an SUV or other luxury vehicle, this is just my personal conviction.

I think it is waste of money that could be put to better use in the kingdom. That is just me. But, being in a situation of beggars can't be choosers, I do drive one. I could sell it, but I have looked at my options, and being that I know it is a reliable car, what I could get out of it wouldn't enable me to buy a car that would be as dependable.

These are just my personal feelings, I feel as Christians we have let ourselves get too caught up with the trappings of our society, and too over-laden with "stuff". I don't think that everyone is obliged to follow my convictions, and I try not to be too judgmental about it.

Don't judge me for driving a 15 year old SUV!!! LOL

Seriously though some of the higher end cars are more reliable, have a higher resale, and when taken care of actually pay for themselves in there longevity.

Well, I think we should be minimal in things we purchase, and not go about just collecting massive amounts of things, but at the same time, I think using your money wisely includes buying good quality. I might pay $200 for a dress that will last for 5 years, while another woman may pay $50 for 5 dresses that last less than 1 or 2. Now, who is the better steward? *shrug*

I agree that modest living is a good thing. I just don't think that living cheaply is the equivalent of modesty. Nor is it handling money wisely, IMO.
