Re: Gays, family ties and opening up....
Should you advise your son that staying with this person is not in his best interests?

If you are talking to me, our son lives at home with us. He had a friend whose mother was close friends with this gay man. They stayed with him when they were moving and getting their new place in order. Anyway, this boy ran by the gay guy's house and my son was with him. I totally freaked!

Re: Gays, family ties and opening up....
I have not had the time to read this entire thread, but I'm sure that if the gay man was raised in church that he knows all of the negative thoughts and scriptures that Christians might use against the gay lifestyle.
I think it is best not to use scripture as a weapon against a truly searching individual. I think it best to just be a good listener and friend. He probably already knows how you believe. Let him know that you are praying for him and he can talk to you when he needs someone to talk to. Keep your conversations as positive as possible.
You can be sure that he has to deal with feelings of guilt and being shunned by some in the church and family. Let him know that you are not approaching him to condemn him.

I'd say he's old enough to defend himself against the advances of a dirty old man, wouldn't you? You like to get upset over things that haven't happened yet. My Mom is like that and it drives me up the wall!!

Neither my wife nor myself are overprotective that way, thank you Jesus. I am very protective in some ways, like not letting the little ones go outside by themselves, but I try to tailor my protecting to what would be appropriate for their age. My son is 16 and he already knows how to handle it if some freaky old man tries to get funny with him. In fact, I have had "that" talk with all of them already. The school is pretty good about reinforcing that sort of teaching too.
