"...sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." John 5:14
Gotta love that story. Here's a large crowd of sick people. Waiting for the mad dash into the water when the angel stirs it up. First one in wins! The rest of you, better luck next time. (An angel with a sick sense of humor?) In walks Jesus. Singles out one from the crowd. Heals him. Only him. Tells him "No more sinning, or else!"
Anyway, so are you implying that this story has a message for us today? Is it that if we sin, God may zap us? And if we stop sinning, He won't let anything worse happen to us? I hope the lady in live4him's post took this to heart, so nothing worse than blindness will ever happen to her.
So, if my cynical, but perfectly literal, interpretation isn't what you had in mind, what are we to learn from that scripture and from the woman's testimony? Seriously!

I am really re-considering whether or not to own a television. I've browsed the channels aimed at middle school/ high school kids. Much of the programming promotes an alternative lifestyle.
Psa 101:2 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. Psa 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

You can block those channels - there are several that I block - one just because it's very existence is an affront to me and not because I or my kids will be "tempted."
If you have kids you need to be one of those "channels" yourself, as well. Spend sometime with them. Teach them and encourage them. Watch cartoons with them. Chucking out the TV seems like an easy solution to a rather complex problem. But it doesn't really solve the probelm.
You have to become somebody different than the guy or gal who is slobbering over the tube. When you've become a different person then the issues resolve more clearly.
And I don't mean "you" Berk. But really, each of us.
