Re: How to Save Money
I always have a calculator with me when I shop. I like to figure the price of a discounted item before I check out.

When I read about her I thought, finally! Someone on the same page! I knew of her years ago. But she is more radical than I am. At least she used to be. I like to enjoy life as well as save money. God worked on me about that because I used to be too much of a fanatic.
And I really don't know what you are talking about as far as talking terms. I vaguely remember disagreeing with you on something along time ago.

Re: How to Save Money
I read the newspaper online now and do not take the paper anymore. I do get the weekend paper because of the coupons. I feel that the savings on coupon use pays for the weekend subscription.

I do the same! (Except for the local weeklies which have the flyers and classifieds that I use.)
Since I work at the library, I ask them to save the coupons for me from the sunday papers so I get a lot of coupons. I could read the weekly at work, but this would be difficult. It would save money, but convenience has it's merits too.

Re: How to Save Money
I think the big thing with saving money is that people weigh convenience with savings. People actually pay to save, usually with time and it has to be weighed whether the savings are worth it.
When my kids were born, I wanted to stay home with them and I don't have a lot of earning power either so I felt my contribution was using my time to save. Many women choose to work instead of stay home. For some, this is economically necessary but I think that is less often than people think. For women with little earning power, the costs of day care and convenience foods etc. cost so much that it is hardly worth it. Not to mention missing your children's childhoods. And then, for women with more earning power, they are also usually married to men with more earning power and usually choose a higher standard of lifestyle...bigger house, nicer cars and in reality, are choosing to work instead of stay at home.
Some changes are easy to make. Some changes should have the investment of time made and some changes are not worth it. Each person has to weigh these things out for themselves.

Re: How to Save Money
Use 4-5 cans of water to make juice rather than the three they tell you to. Less sugar, more juice. I have done this for so long that my family doesn't know the difference. I find juice very sweet when I do not do this. Frozen juices are usually cheaper than bottled unless you have a sale and a coupon. I got a number of bottles of Old Orchard on sale a few weeks ago plus they had a coupon on the bottle for if you buy two. I bought 6 or 8 (can't remember) for .75 each.

Re: How to Save Money
A couple of times a week, make a meal of Muskos. "This must go and that must go." (Got the term Musko from Carla Emerys The Encylopedia for Country Living which is a great resource.) We are having a meal of Muskos for lunch as soon as I get off of here.

Re: How to Save Money
I agree about convenience. When I worked outside the home, we spent money on things I did not have time to do at home. Also, I shopped at one store for convenience sake. One guilty pleasure I have is I buy the salad in a bag for convenience. Now that they have said they are X-Raying the produce to make sure they are killing all the germs, I am having second thoughts about the salad in a bag.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I still buy it in a bag, but I can get a bag at Aldi for .89. Not bad. Or, I will use coupons or the local co-op sells it by weight, which is a pretty good deal too. I still buy heads of lettuce too. It just depends on what sales are going on.

Don't throw out your soap slivers. Get your new bar, wet it and sluck the sliver onto it. Voila.
