Re: How to Save Money
Get credit cards that earn travel points. BUT PAY THEM OFF EVERY MONTH!! I buy all my groceries, gas, toiletries, everything on credit cards. We fly free about half the time that we travel, and we stay free in hotels all over the place.

We do the same, but so far haven't used the travel points. I probably will this coming summer. And yes, paying them off monthly us crucial!! (That's the "catch" for the companies to make money!)

Re: How to Save Money
Hang your clothes to dry instead of drying them in the dryer. If you like them softer, finish them in the dryer.
I don't personally hang my clothes on the line because of allergies.

Re: How to Save Money
I have done this before- I love the smell of air dried clothes. The house I live in now does not have a clothesline.

Re: How to Save Money
I have done my comparison shopping for groceries for three weeks now. My conclusion- Walmart is by far the cheapest place to shop- but other stores do run good sales and you can shop for specific items that are on sale or bring the sale paper and ask Walmart to match the sale. I am now tracking my expenditures for groceries to see how much I spend on groceries and see if I can reduce it.
My husband was astounded when we got married and I did not know how much eggs, milk, or bread cost. My response was if I need it I buy it- regardless of the cost. So this is quite a change for me.

That's great. Are you going to share your results?

Re: How to Save Money
Results- I determined with my comparison shopping that Walmart was the cheapest overall. They are way cheaper on cleaning items (sometimes over a dollar cheaper, the staples - eggs, bread, milk, cheese they are just pennies cheaper. Therefore, I will shop at Walmart unless there is something at another store is carrying that is not at Walmart. For example, today I went to the locally owned market for Jongold apples, and locally grown pecans. I will also save the sale papers and bring them to Walmart and ask them to match the prices.
As for tracking my expenditures, well I am just trying to get a handle on how much I spend each month on food. Before I knew about how much I spent, but I have never known the exact amount.
My next adventure- is comparing grocery prices to the items I buy regularly at Sams. I will share those results when I do that.

Re: How to Save Money
I thought I would share some money saving tips I read in a magazine the other day. Some of them I have tried, some I will be trying.
Buy a multi purpose cleaner instead of one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom.
Instead of fabric softener sheets, use an old sock with some diluted liquid fabric softener for each load. This article said it was even cheaper to pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar in the final rinse. I don't know if I will try that one.
To save electricity, dry clothes in consecutive loads. You do not have to heat up the dryer each time.
Use newspaper to clean windows and mirrors instead of paper towels.

Re: How to Save Money
Reusing ideas
Use a empty tissue box to store grocery bags, receipts, or other odds and ends.
Cover the bottom of a plant when watering with a plastic shower cap.
Use empty glass jelly jars to store leftovers.
Use heavy duty plastic comforter bags to store out of season clothes.
