Both for-profit, and not-for-profit organizations are feeling the pinch, and are making cutbacks.
Some of the issues at PPH may be caused by mismanagement at headquarters, but it may just be the economic slowdown. When money is tight, less people are going to be buying books, tapes, etc. One church I know is recycing/re-using their Sunday School books from past years to use for their current SS classes. Eventually this kinda stuff ends up tricking down financially to PPH in St Louis.

Now you touched a big button there! My wife has been a SS teacher for 3 decades + now. She continually recycles her SS material even though she is given the new stuff but she has seen the HUGE difference in the materials used (for 7-10 year olds) from the old days to the scant supplies that is provided today. The cycling of the materials is about every 3 years and then the same material is pumped out....with less supplies each time. It's too bad that there is nobody on staff to get a little more creative with the teaching program than just recycling the same print and material. So let's face it. The cutbacks began many years ago.
