So, do you consider someone calling you by your first name "vulgar culture"?

I find this mindset to be more prevalent in the older generation.

*Decrying the lack of neckties and suits, not only in the church but in the work place.

*Very resistant to new praise and worship music, preferring instead the old hymns from the UPCI "Songs of Praise" songbooks.

*Crying "armageddon" when a church does away with a Sunday evening service.

*No stage lighting or fog machines, etc.

Nothing wrong with reminiscing, but when one lives in the past, they can never be effective in the present, or build for the future.

Nothing wrong

Fog machines. We need more and more FOG machines. Yeaaaahhh sireeeee bob. that's the secret. That's the way to go. We really have a handle on things now. Laser beams and disco balls will help a lot too. Sex needs to be actively promoted from the pulpit. We need seven days of sex, four weeks a month to evangelize the youth with. Maybe a fog machine during seven days would be good too. Maybe an orgy would be in order too. After all, we need to get with the times.

So, who's living in the past?

I find a fast exit either to the left or the right when someone that I have not developed a relationship with calls me by my first name. I make a new plan, Stan.

You seem to think that the pulpit and the office of the ministry does not deserve that little bit of dignity?

This thread reminded me of something that happened not too long ago...an old friend who's husband was a minister in our church had a really good friend (they were cousins by marriage as well) but once her husband became the district Youth President she insisted that her best friend call her "Sister" and no longer by her first name.
You sound Carey M..atic.

I'm just curious as to what's in your mind that would take you from fog machines to orgies? I said nothing about sex..........

I thought a whole lot more about sex after I got into the church than I ever did before. Suddenly I realized I was personally responsible for the lusts of men. I began to walk hunched over. (This is no joke.)

Say it ain't so! How horrible and entirely unscriptural! How dare a preacher not adorn himself with costly apparel and that cloth necklace! These must be the last of days, for sure! Vulgar! Simply vulgar!
