Re: What would Steve Epley do?
I'm sure Eld. Epley would pray about it, then speak with love and respect to those who were there. Some times he comes across pretty strong here but that's because we all know each other. I think he would be a little different in a community church group like that. And, I would not consider that to be a compromise.

I agree.

Re: What would Steve Epley do?
To go in there and do anything other than what you were asked to do, and agreed to by accepting the invitation would be pretty hypocritical wouldn't it?

What would Steve Do? What should I do?

Concern yourself with this question, and this question alone:
What would Jesus do?
But, if accepting this invitation in the spirit of thanksgiving to do a Scripture reading at this event (or any other event) seems to be a compromise of your beliefs maybe you should decline. I would take your need to even ask as a sign that maybe your aren't a very good representative of your beliefs.

Re: What would Steve Epley do?
I guess an update is due:
First this thread was in fun. I love Steve and his honest posts so this was done with less than serious intent. I wasn't going to change minds or convince them that we are right, but to give a good witness of God's grace in our church and community.
The service went well, we had two members of our church give an testimony (which by the way they shared within good taste) how Jesus healed them, delivered them and one even told how the Holy Spirit came upon him and he prayed in tongues.
The Catholic Church was the most modern, large, expansive, open and airy Catholic Church I have ever been in. Nothing like the old, damp and dark churches that I have been in the past.
The service was well attended, along with us and the 2 AOG pastors, the Catholics were outnumbered, so some measure of God's truth and power was present.
God Bless all.

Re: What would Steve Epley do?
I just saw this wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll I have NEVER did a funeral without mentioning Acts 2:38 or wedding or baby dedication so what do you think? However I certainly would attempt to do it tastefully.
