I strongly disagree. I already have eternal life when I have the Lord in me. Eternal life is not something we get when we become immortal. Immortal and eternal are two very different things. Eternal means no beginning nor ending. Immortal means no ending alone. So since only God is eternal, and I can never BECOME eternal, I have eternal life since He is in me.
1 John 5:13 KJV These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
That does not mean I cannot lose my eternal life and salvation through sin. But right now, I have it! That just needs to be maintained.

We can have an opinion, but where is the scripture for it?

You have the hope of... You also interact with the eternal life of the Spirit. The life of the Spirit is the eternal life IN HIM he promised but we have not obtained it yet in it's fulness. We INHERIT IT in the end! As when you inherit the future kingdom of God as Paul says! Yes he gives us life as in covenant/eternal life through his Spirit but the promise has to come to a fulness of realization. In the end one is judged either unto eternal life or damnation. You say you have eternal life? To inherit it is the point. I think it is all semantics on our points but oh well! Much of your points almost like many OSAS who say I have eternal life. I have it thus my salvation cannot be take away.

It may be semantics, but I know if I should pass today, I would inherit all that is waiting for the saved believer. I already said I can lose my salvation. But as it stands now, I have eternal life and know I am saved. I will also would know if I am not.

Re: Are you sure you're saved?

The question should have been "are you sure you will spend eternity in Heaven?" Now that question can't possibly be answered 100% sure by anyone. Can it?

Everyone knows some backsliders, and some of them looked like rock-solid believers who would never be swayed, didn't they? Who can say that they themselves will never, ever fall, between now and their death? Not only must they be right about their current "saved" status (have chosen the right book to follow, and chosen the right interpretation of it, and followed its instructions correctly), but they have to "endure to the end". Nobody can know if they have what it takes to do that.

Can they?

Re: Are you sure you're saved?

"My Hope is Built on Nothing Less"
by Edward Mote, 1797-1874

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Hymn #370
The Lutheran Hymnal
Text: 1 Timothy 1:1
Author: Edward Mote, c. 1834, cento
Composer: John Stainer, 1873, arr.
Tune: "Magdalen"

No, your question was fine. God is greater than our heart and looks beyond the bias and it's intents to cover truth that we don't want to hear! We may feel confident we give all and we stand right. THat's fine but really we don't know as we maybe deceiving ourselves. THat's the point of judgment! We can stand confident in that we did what we believed but we don't know the judgment of God on whether we really sought all to gain all either. Giving up 95% might sound good but that is not what heasked for!

Re: Are you sure you're saved?

Merton’s Prayer

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me, I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

(Thoughts in Solitude, Thomas Merton, 81)

I put 100% Wow, that makes me sound pompous. I think the Pharisees would have put 100% to.
