I'm not doing the Christmas tree thing this year, but if I was, I'd do away with the red mesh.
Your gut instinct is right-- it's too much.
I'd put up ornaments made from pictures of loved ones, or real pine cones or go to the store and buy some lights and ornaments. I'd keep in mind to not detract from the "
natural" beauty of the beautiful tree you have.
Plus, you need an angel or a star on top.
