So you guys think there was a literal tower being built at what would become known as Babel, and God was literally concerned that these people, since they all spoke the same language, could accomplish anything they set their minds to, and He couldn't have that now could He, so He literally made them start speaking different languages and scattered them far and wide, so they would be less able to accomplish things?

Mmmmmkay.

Now you know God wasn't concerned that the people could somehow build a tower to heaven..... or anything else. His commandment was simply to disperse themselves, and they weren't doing it.

Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

Seems like concern, to me. Not that their tower would reach heaven, as the Sunday School lessons usually say. It doesn't say that. Just that they could do anything they wanted to do. Seemed to bother Him for some reason.

Anyway, you think this was a true historical account of events?

Hello Timmy, Half the houses in Bagdad are built with stone from the ruins of the Tower of Babel.

I believe it is a true even although it's exact nature (place, population, time) cannot be known.

The ruins are still there about fifty (50) miles west of Bagdad. One of Saddam Hussain's palace is built nearby.

Ever watch the Naked Archeologist on NATGEO (National Geographic channel)? He goes after things like this............
