You are reminding me of when I was Drum Major. At our summer camp I learned a new signal to start the band marching. It was our first parade. After giving the signal I took off and didn't hear anyone behind me. I turned around and the band was standing in place waiting for me to give them the long used familiar signal. Lord, that was embarrassing.

I played the clarinet too.

I had a wood Noblet too!!!! Wow; we could start an AFF clarinet trio! My parents sold mine too - for $40!!!! I wish I still had it. I still remember all the notes. I played Oboe one year too, but I hated it and the reeds were SO expensive. $1.25. LOL! The clarinet reeds were only $0.25.

Re: Funny Christmas Thread
I DID love playing Tympani in the percussion session. I could take out all my aggression on those things. I played cymbals, bass, tympani, triangle, and mostly bells (xylophone) when I spent that year in percussion. I even carried an old xylophone in parades many times and it weighed a ton.

$40! My mother sold mine for $125. Noblet's are the best clarinets!!! I wish I still had mine too!
I just played the E-flat Clarinet during concert.
Yeah, those expensive reeds!! LOL!
Remember when the technician would come to school and check our instruments and fix them for free - replacing corks, pads, etc? They don't do that anymore!

Ok, we never had that happen. It would have been nice though!!
Did you do the contests, where you went on the bus to another town and performed in solo contests? Or sometimes in trios? I still have all my ribbons from those. I loved band! I was in it from 4th grade all the way through high school. And yes, I wore the uniform, pants and all, even though we were in UPC. My folks didn't enforce some of the rules. I guess they figured if someone was going to lust after me and my sister in that awful band uniform, someone had more problems than we did!

Yes, I did the UIL and marching contests. I still have my metals. When I was Drum Major we were fortunate to be chosen to march at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. We had a blast! That was my best year.
I'll PM you my Drum Major picture. My "pants" are kind of high waters though.
