Re: Christmas Traditions

Jeff makes it with this recipe:

1 stick butter
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. peanut butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2-3 c. powdered sugar
15 c. chex cereal (2 boxes)

Basically, you melt the butter and chocolate together, then stir in the peanut butter, followed by the vanilla. Gently toss the melted chocolate mixture with the cereal in a large bowl until it's evenly coated. Pour the powdered sugar into a paper bag; pour in the chocolate coated cereal, close the bag, and shake well. (Until all the cereal is covered with powdered sugar.)

Um....now that I think about it, this might be a double recipe--we usually make a lot!

Put cereal in large bowl. Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Pour over Chex cereal, put into a large plastic bag with powdered sugar and shake well to coat.

Spread mixture evenly on wax paper and allow to cool.

I love it! I like to freeze it and eat it cold!
Hmmm...I'll have to try that. And your recipe looks a bit more reasonable.

Re: Christmas Traditions

Do you have to put the powdered sugar on it? It sounds yummy.

Jeff makes Puppy Chow--how do you do it without peanut butter? Or do you mean you just make it with chocolate?

My recipe for Puppy Chow is just like MissBratt's except that I leave out the peanut butter because of Keith's peanut allergy. So instead I double the butter and the chocolate chips. That makes just the right amount to coat 2 boxes of Chex cereal. I always just put the powdered sugar on right in the bowl after I've coated everything with the chocolate. I like the paper bag idea tho. Maybe I'll give that a try next time.

Probably...it keeps it from sticking together.

Re: Christmas Traditions

I have a little bit left in the freezer and as soon as I finish mixing up the cookies I'm going to sit down and enjoy it!

You HAVE to have the powdered sugar on it - - it tastes better (and keeps it from sticking)!
