I have seen my share of churches split because of a PROPHECY or a prophet coming to town and saying God said such and such so I do understand the fear that people and preachers develop with all this "God is doing a new thing" stuff.
Even with all I've witnessed even first hand with this, I am STILL for prophecy and gifts. However, I believe it has to be under the confines of a good covering and establish doctrine or else it always proves to go fowl.

I think it's wrong for people to say "thus saith God"
As if any prophesy is on the same level as the word of God-
I don't care who they are, whoever is prophesying, they all see through a glass darkly and are only relaying what they are perceiving in the spirit. (of course some are better hearers than others)
No prophesy holds as much weight as the word of God and should never be treated as such.
Anyway... don't get me started.
I have had too many close friends go off the deep end because they treated a personal prophesy as a solid, fool proof, set in stone word.
A word is to encourage, comfort and exhort not make your life complicated.
