If a pastor/church leader asks all his constituents to give up red meat because he is convinced it's unhealthy what would you do?
Um no I wouldn't give it up. According to your statement - you said "unhealthy" - not "a sin"
Either way, God gives each of us a little common sense. I certainly wouldn't not serve it to him or eat it infront of someone who may be offended but I also would not obstain completely.
We are members of the congregation - NOT clones or mindless drones. All things in moderation.
I do agree (for the record) that too much is infact unhealthy! Balance balance balance!
There are a lot of other things that are unhealthy, and not just food. Does he abstain from them all? Since I don't think that's possible, I'd have to continue eating red meat.
He could be a model of health for the church and encourage healthy living, but I will determine what is right for me. I am also convinced that everyone's body reacts differently to things, so what is good for one person may not be good for another.
As a pastor it's none of my business what people eat! I have heard of wackos out there like this and they should be banned from preaching! Jesus NEVER addressed the issue from that perspective.
While my family RARELY eats pork, and I have not eaten much red meat in months, I have never mentioned to the church that they must follow suit. I have, however, told them that not eating healthy will NOT send them to hell......................it just might get them heaven quicker!

While I prefer chicken to steak, I am not about to give up hamburgers or pasta sauces with Italian sausage, though I have discovered a few tricks that make turkey burger almost indistinguishable from hamburger when used in hamburger-helper-ish style recipes.
Bottom line.... pastor's may make healthy lifestye suggestions. But making an arbitrary rule? Nope.
I voted start looking for a new church...He would have no Bible right to make a law like that...he might tell the evils of red meat and suggest not eating it but to make it a law is not my type pastor....sorry...next thing he might serve might be Kool-Aid....
AMEN!!!!! It's not so much about the red meat as to what he'd be asking to eat or drink next!
Exactly. Therefore, those hearing the request have no obligation to submit to such whims of personal preferences.
I would go a bit further and say the hearers have a responsibility and an obligation to limit there compliance, lest in their compliance they strengthen a false teaching.
Well said, Stevebo!

Not only strengthen a false teaching but also strengthen the pastor apparent loss of clarify in what areas of peoples lives are his to delve into and which are not.
