International Standard Bible Encyclopedia

SHEKINAH she-ki'-na (shekhinah, "that which dwells," from the verb shakhen, or shakhan, "to dwell," "reside"): This word is not found in the Bible, but there are allusions to it in Isaiah 60:2 Matthew 17:5 Luke 2:9 Romans 9:4. It is first found in the Targums.

Now you see why, over and over I keep saying you’re killing your own credibility. There’s a reason the non-scriptural Jewish writings, (Apocrypha, Talmud, etc), are not part of the Bible. I’m not even going to bother explaining that. I’m assuming you already know; or at least you should.

Re: Apostolic Preacher Predicts 2009 World Events

My predictions are often uncanny!

Given a choice between 2 or more lanes to pull into at a red light, mine will ALWAYS have the 'granny' driver in front who accelerates slower than anyone else.

Same at the bank when I have a choice of which teller window line to stand in.

At the dice table I will ALWAYS roll a 7 or 11 on my SECOND roll (when you don't want it).

If I stop at 19 or 20, the dealer will ALWAYS end up with 20 or 21.

No matter what I buy my wife for Christmas or her birthday, it will ALWAYS be on sale the next day. Conversely if she then see's it she'll think I bought it because it was cheap.

Interesting comeback, DA,but there is a key difference here.

In the post you're referring to, I was addressing the fact that you were using commentary from a non-biblical, non-Christian (Jewish) source to support the point you were trying to make.

In this case, the use of a single word which is not explicitly biblical is not something I have that much of a problem with, as long as it's being used to express a clearly biblical concept. There are other words we use in Christendom that are not explicitly biblical, but they express a clearly biblical concept. (Words like "rapture", "omnipotence", "incarnation", etc.)

I rarely, if ever use the word myself... but the concept of a manifest presence of God is definitely biblical, so I'm not going to crucify someone for using the word "shekinah" to describe it, just because we don't see the word in our bibles.

I'm thinking of wearing a sign on my back, as a public service, for when I'm standing in line at the store. "Pick another lane. This is one's going to take forever."

I really think some folks are taking this a bit too seriously.

The man is not claiming to be "prophesying". He's just making predictions based on how he thinks things are likely to play out.

I wouldn't make too big a deal out of this.
