A better explanation? As in a better explanation for what the purpose of baptism is?

Can you honestly say you've read the book of Acts and still need a better explanation for the purpose of baptism?

And yes, I know most who refer to themselves as one-steppers would refer to baptism as an outward sign of an inward grace. First....where is the scripture for that?
Second............if you really feel that you have followed the biblical plan of salvation,
yet there is still something missing........... and that "something" is showing others you have completed the plan of salvation by getting baptized??????

If you've truly completed the biblical plan of salvation why do you feel the need to do this (baptism) just to let others know that you've been saved?
