Concerning water baptism, the Apostle Peter says:
it is a figure or picture of salvation,
it is not a literal washing or cleansing,
it is the response (answer) of a clear conscience.
ref 1 Peter 3:21

Water baptism is considered by many to be a picture of salvation in the same way the bread and wine are pictures of the broken body and shed blood of our Lord. When we partake of the wine and bread we "declare" or "shew" the Lord's death. When we self-immerse or are immersed by another we "declare" that we believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and that we have died, were buried, and have risen with Him into a new life.

I realize that not all Apostolics see it this way.

Second............if you really feel that you have followed the biblical plan of salvation,
yet there is still something missing........... and that "something" is showing others you have completed the plan of salvation by getting baptized??????

If you've truly completed the biblical plan of salvation why do you feel the need to do this (baptism) just to let others know that you've been saved?

Consider Apollos (Acts 18:24-28) and the disciples of John the Baptist who are introduced in Acts 19 and Paul rebaptizes. We are not told explicitly that Apollos was rebaptized - but Luke seems to want to make a point of this concerning the disciples of John.

Now, why were they rebaptized? What was accomplished for them (or for those around them?) by their rebaptism in Jesus name?

When we are baptized its not just a declartion its an entering in to the covenant. Its not just an outward sign of an inward thing. The bible says the baptism of John the (Mark 1:4) Baptist was for remission but then when we look at what Peter preached in Acts 2:28 we find the same word...remission of sins. It is more than a bath to prove you declare yourself a Christian look at 1 Peter 3:21 We first need repentance which is an act of surrender of man's will to the will of God and a turning away from the things God hates and being sorry for it. Not just knowing its wrong but having the heart change that its so wrong you would never again want to do it.Many I am sorry to say have just taken a bath.

They needed to be born again and become partakers of the new covenant.

We don't read that Apollos was baptized after Priscilla and Aquila "expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly(completely). We can't say positively that he was or was not but we assume he was. Ref Acts 18:24-28

John the Baptist was the forerunner. He told folks, "Just like I'm baptizing you in water the One that is coming after me will baptize you in the Holy Spirit." Those "Baptists" at Ephesus (Acts 19:1-7) evidently didn't even know that Jesus had come and was baptizing people in the Spirit. John was dead and had passed off the scene.

The one thing that they did not need however, was the remission of sins. They had already received that when they repented under John's ministry. Mark 1:4.
