This is a case of extra biblical commandments being taught from the pulpit. If there be any offense it was caused by pulpit teachings which have no basis in the Bible.

This is where the "Obey them" is used as a catch-all to literally make anything biblical -whether it is biblical or not.

I have also always wondered why the harshest and strictest standard is always the "lowest common denominator" that must be followed? If a man who wears a wedding ring goes into a group who do not believe in them, why does HE have to be the one to remove it? Why will the others never put one ON for his sake?
