You think the scripture "vengeance is mine - I will repay saith the Lord" will be fulfilled - LOL

Re: Do you BELIEVE in Christians being educated?
I believe in apostolics going on to higher education is a wise decision, if they feel they can handle the pressures (spiritual, social, and increasingly financial).
I am in college because I want to be there, and I also have no other choice, should I want to stay in my parent's house. However, my parent's threats don't keep me in college, since college was something I grew up knowing I would go into. Both my parents got their Masters, and I will also be getting my Masters, but I will not be getting my PhD.... maybe one of my future kids can go and get a PhD, and then that will become the norm, who knows...
I do NOT think however, that it is wise to allow one's children to go away for college! NO WAY! I lived away for my first year of college, and the things I saw, and was tempted in, and the stuff people tried to get me to do was craziness! In October of my freshman year, I went to the annual conference in Plaster Rock, and I knew the LORD spoke to me at the altar and told me that I was not to live at college again. Needless to say, I went through the rest of that year (which October was just the second month, and I still had 11 left) and when that year was done I moved back home, and I knew why the LORD had spoken to me at the altar, because that first year at college was crazy. I drive 40 minutes to school, twice a week, and it is not bad at all. I'd say local state school, or community college for the first two years is just fine, unless you live close to a private university and want to pay $50K a year...

Oh, college can become a regular "Animal House" if you let it. But once a kid becomes an adult and decides on their own they want to go to a college that is not in the same town, do you honestly think the parents have ANY authority to tell them otherwise? After all 1) They ARE adults and 2) the "under our roof" clause no longer applies since they would not be at home anymore. Granted they COULD withhold any financial aid which may be an issue but then again I have two degrees and paid for both of them 100% myself.

When I am a parent, I would withhold financial assistance from my children if they wanted to live away at college. I do believe fathers have authority over their daughters, to say "No", even after she is an adult, if she is unmarried, but she can go against his authority, and there's not much the father can do.
As for Rhoni's Bible college joke, I got a kick out of that one. I remember when I was 16 and open to the possibility of UPC Bible college, and I remember being told about the "liberal" and "conservative" ones... I never got to experience it though, which might have been for the best, since I didn't end up staying UPC...
