I'll give you one example. A friend of ours that is an evangelist was telling about how he prayed to receive the Holy Ghost many times when he first got in church. He felt like he had repented. One night God spoke to him and told him about something, in his house, that he needed to get rid of. It was hindering his life. When he got rid of the, whatever it was - he didn't share this with us, he was filled with the Holy Ghost.

I believe that this man's heart was being emptied out (repenting) and on that particular night, when God spoke to him, he was ready to give up what was hindering his life. Not every man is the same in coming to God and surrendering all areas of their lives. That is why I say, it is more than just saying, "I am sorry."

Some people empty themselves out at the beginning and some have a process.

IMO, that is why some, in the Bible, spoke in tongues before baptism and some after. We don't know the hearts of men. We need to allow God to do the work.

LOL! Look, this in not even up for debate in my life. I know too much and I've seen too much. Nope, not even going to discuss that on this forum.

so was Peter wrong?....or was something lost in translation.

BTW...remember Luke's gospel was most likely not written first hand....meaning he (Luke) was not present at the time Jesus gave this speech.

I'm not getting into this discussion, sorry. I don't really care what other people want to believe. I know what God has been to me, what He's done for me, what's He doing for me......

The only reason I engaged on this thread, in the first place, is to voice my belief that each individual (vessel) empties themselves out in different ways.

God will not put new wine in an old vessel. There is a process, for some, involving repentance. That is my point.

it is a military command that means to stop going a certain direction...turn 180 degrees...and start marching in that direction.

saying "sorry" is part of the process....but many people miss out on the freedom that comes from true repentance...because all they do is stop. Repentance is also about starting to move in the other direction.

Re: I Knew This Would Happen....

why don't we still have "sounds of wind" and "tongues of fire"? Weren't these the very first apostolic signs that someone recieved the Holy Spirit?

Why didn't the disciples "speak with tongues" when they first recieved the Holy Spirit?
