I would rather make people laugh than cry, especially in situations that are stressful and sad. I'm appropriate, but love to have fun. The residents I cared for knew that and many times were thankful for the smile I gave them every day.
I did another faux pas last night. Seems my mouth overrides my boot sometimes.
We had a patient that had a run of V-tach. This could mean trouble later on, but I went to check on him and make sure he was ok. He didn't even feel it as he'd been sleeping, but wanted me to explain what happened.
I explained about the arrhythmia and how we check on people who go into it who have otherwise had a normal rhythm.
So, I say to him.....
"You had only 12 beats of V-tach. That's not really a big deal as long as you are asymptomatic but it's possible that if you went longer, we'd be coding you."
Did I REALLY have to say that?????
Translation.....yeah, your heart is acting up and you might die next time!
Well, I just went on with my explanation and hoped he didn't pay attention to that part. He didn't bring it up, so perhaps he was too tired to understand! LOL!
Sometimes I can overexplain things. It's just a bad fault of mine.
