Ferd, I'm not saying that you are in the wrong. The whole field of art, poetry, music, is highly subjective. And often it is less important what the author meant behind the song/painting/poem, then what it speaks to you.
To be honest, that is why I have no problem listening/reading to so many things that are considered "secular", because I see God in everything, and I hear God speaking to me in everything.
I'm not suggesting that everyone should be like me. I think everyone needs to follow their own conscience.

Honestly, I don't listen to a lot of non-Christian music. Personally I like music that stirs my affections for Christ. However, there is music that is so awesome and so great that it is worth listening to.
In the past I have struggled with music and the emotions that certain types of music can bring. Because of that I am careful what I listen to and I wouldn't want to offend a weaker brother or sister by recommending they listen to something that could cause them to struggle with their flesh.
The truth is that most of the lyrics to these songs can be interpreted in many different ways. There is not a lot of profanity or blatant hostility. It is just the music of our generation and nonchristians singing and writing about things they are passionate about.
Kings Of Leon is probably one of the best bands to come around in years. Their music is amazing.
We aren't talking about their music. We are talking about their lyrics that unfortunately for your argument here some of the pro KOL have already admitted their lyrics are bad.

A weak christian can listen to whatever they want to also, it is their choice. That does not make it a GOOD choice nor does that make it non-detrimental. You are just repeating your argument, not really adding anything new.
That is my point. Being a Strong Christian does not make listening to something ok while being a weak one makes it not ok. And is a Strong Christian thinks he can listen to ANYTHING they want and not be affected I have to wonder if they really are that strong or at least that smart. Reminds me of the ex alcoholic that thought he was a strong Christian and was gonna prove it by keeping a bottle of booze around in plain site. That is just plain stupid

For the record 99 % of what I listen to is Christian music...specifically the Hillsong type. I rarely listen to this type of music, but I like it and will purchase some of it I am sure.
And for the record, that is fine, that is your business. But I will take exceptions to anyone offering a justification here that it's ok to do because strong Christians can handle it or for that matter any Christian can listen to musical content that they know is wrong and not be affected just because they don't turn into a gang banger over night. I think that is unwise. Nor do I think hearing a song like that once in a great moon is going to send you to hell but if one continues to subject his psyche to that sort of stuff it will have consequences whether one notices it or not. That is my opinion

It is a personal decision to listen to this band or not. I don't see anything particularly morally wrong with the band. I know they are sinners and I don't expect to get God edifying lyrics from them. However, their talent and ability to play music is still a glory to God even if they are not children of God. I can listen and marvel at the music and not really listen to the lyrics and actually be uplifted because of these guys ability that God has given them.
I don't see anything wrong with "Holy Roller Novacane" as a title to a song. "Holy Roller" is not a sacred term to me.
What is sin for me might not be sin to my brother. Many of our struggles come from things that are morally neutral.
Their talent and ability to play music COULD be a glory to God if they used it that way.
