Re: Yippie! Bachelor for a week

Well, since it appears that the forecast is rain Friday, thunderstorms Saturday, rain Sunday and probably rain Monday it is looking like I will hang out at home and cook, relax and just enjoy time off alone.

On the menu:
Chili-Lime fajitas
Grilled filet mignon, sans the bacon wrapping

I'll bet you were the one vote for this:

Not wash a dish or pick up one single article of clothing

Wow, Sam! That's great!!

I was more inclined to one of the road trips to Gettysburg or Niagra, but the weather forcast is so horrible and the thought of burning 200+ on gas, food and tolls has made the sit home and vegetate option very attractive.

I actually will do dishes and wash clothes...I can't stand a dirty house. I do most of that through the summer anyhow because my wife works 60+ hours a week from may to September and takes care of her mother on her day off. I only work 32 hours a week, starting monday, now that the economy has tanked.

Yo JA,
if it was just a man-guy road trip to Gettysburg I would seriously like to take a day and experiene the scene of Pickett's charge with a brother in Christ who I admire but don't walk in lockstep with.

Over the years I have come to better understand the unimaginable sacrifice and suffering at Gettysburg (and Antietam). I am so sobered (humbled) by the cost paid by so many of the youngest, and least influential, citizens of our country.

So, maybe someday we will meet at the Cycloramma or stand in front of the culvert at the end of the cornfield (Antietam) and reflect on the ways of man and the opportunities we have in the Kingdom of our God.

warm regards,
tbpew.

That would be a great time tb! Gettysburg is a dream trip for me. I had a paternal ancestor who was there, he was a courier with the 5th Texas. I feel the same way about that and about those of both sides. When my daughter took a school trip there when she was 12, I remember thinking that it probably whould have cheered the old confederate's heart to know that a gret thrice removed grandchild from Connecticutt gould visit that place in peace and safety.

I would look forward to that, May it be so and soon!

I am only 2.5 hrs south of there and would be happy to conform my schedule (Lord willing) to some future occassion when you see a Gettysburg trip in your travel plans.

BTW, if your travels ever take to DC, it is a very easy trip out to Harper's Ferry (John Brown) and the Antietam Battlefield. The local town is NO MATCH to greater Gettysburg but if it is a circuit trip from a DC work assignment, I would be happy to transport and provide some local tour-guide stuff. An IT geek living in CT may overlook the finer points of Greater Boonsboro and the Redbird Diner.

I have seen your pics at GNC from you and your daughter's appreciation for camping....the Micheaux State forest has some excellent day hiking and some rustic cabin rentals (PATC) that are only 22 miles due west of Gettysburg. The Appalacian Trail (and circuits) is extremely well maintained in the stretch from Carlise, Pa to Ferderick (Md).

So here's a possible cold weather agenda for a Rustic cabin rental (Milesburn) on the AT:
Day 1 Arrive, get settled and do the Pole Steeple summit climb (Pine Grove Furnace) and load up with 10 gallons of ice cold spring water gushing out of the mountain side
Day 2 and Day 3 trips into Gettysburg
Day 4 break and head back after a gypsy skillet breakfast.

Bring yourself or any other men who love the woods, the star-jammed night sky, a good fire, an excellent rustic cabin and some real visitation with the history of America. (Cabin is fire rated for 13 total). Total cost to you....the price of your gasoline (and vehicle wear-n-tear).

My preference is NOT DURING deer season or when BUGS rule! Last week of October, First week of November?
