Re: Bro. Wayne Huntley (Info Needed)

Oh my Stars and garters!

I Google my pastors name to see if anything pops up about him from the UPC Youth congress he just preached and lo and behold I see this.

One person innocently asking for info.
A few who actually KNOW something and post it.
A few who know absolutely Nothing..... so they make up something and post it.

No wonder I never could seem to stay around AFF for very long LOL

I am a member of the T.O.P. and Wayne Huntley has been my pastor for 32 years.

We run about 600 in the sanctuary and the 7 active daughter works are running collectively about 400 or so.
The last service we had when all the daughter works came together with us we had about 1500.

The Choir is about 80 members and is accompanied with live band, consisting of 2 keyboards, bass, and lead guitar, drums, bongo's, organ, and of course a tambourine.

Many of the songs are written by Christy (Huntley) Ballestero.
The music ranges from soul stirring, pour your all out to God messages to shout the house down, swinging from the ceiling fan victory praise.

There are also the TOP "Little saints choir" and "Impact" youth choir.

We are very multicultural, and have 8 or so nations represented in the membership. I would say roughly 30 to 40 % of our members are dark skinned.

The former mayor of Raleigh once asked Bro. Huntley on the platform, "How do you manage to have such a diverse and multicultural congregation?"
He replied, "Cause I tell em they are going to hell if they don't" LOL

Preaching style?

Well, you are asking the wrong person with me, cause I already know he is the best in the world. No seriously, listen to "We aint Drunk as we posed to be"
"the Owner has arrived" or many others found here....

http://www.preachitaudio.com/index.c...mon&record=157
http://www.preachitaudio.com/index.c...kers&record=66

The Choir has 2 Cd's out and a sampling of Sis Ballestero's music is on the website as well for you to get a taste.

We are conservative in many ways, but certainly not as much as some.
I will say this, we would not be embarrassed to step into any UPC ALJC AOG church in the country in regards to how we dress or or carry ourselves.

Our music and praise is certainly very lively and not so "conservative".

We have an active Drama ministry as well, having put on productions at the state fair grounds to audiences of over 2400, general conference and youth congress performances as well.

I truly believe we are one of the friendliest churches in Pentecost.

I would LOVE to have your friend come meet my wife and kids, and report back to you what he thought of the church at the TOP.

Our website is....
www.templeofpentecost.org/

(wife comment) There's not enough words that can be spoken about Brother Huntley. He is like a spiritual father to us all, he loves everyone that comes within the doors of the church, he treats us all the same and with the same respect as he would treat his own children. He loves souls and will preach what God has laid on his heart. (he's not afraid to step on some toes, but it's all out of love, just as a father would). He's the real deal. He's not fake, he doesn't pretend to be something he's not. He's man enough to admit he's human and he too can make mistakes. He has a great sense of humor for all age groups/gender. He makes church fun!!! There's never a dull moment with Bro.Huntley. I have never known my real father, but out of all the men I've come in contact with through my life, If I had to choose one I would want Brother Huntley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P ENOUGH SAID. GOD BLESS.

That was my wife obviously. LOL
Ive been in this church since I was 2, when bro. Huntley came here.
My wife was won through drama's and a tent revival 12 years ago.
We've been married 8 years. We met in this church.
Honestly, this church and my Pastors are really the only thing that have kept us from moving to mountains and colder, snowier climates long ago.

There is nothing I would want more than for my son and daughter to be raised in this church, serve the lord, and go with him in the rapture.

In THIS church.... MY church!

I know the history of this church, and Bro Huntley.
I grew up with the Godairs kids. most of the hearsay that is so liberally thrown around is so ridiculously off base and inaccurate.

Folks will take 5% truth, and make 95% lie, and tell it like they know what they are talking about.

You've heard the saying, "taste and see that the Lord he is Good."

Well, taste the T.O.P. and let me know what you think.

By all means, have them visit Bro Godairs church in Durham. There are some great people there, and I've always thought highly of Johnny Godair.

I'd really love to hear some feedback on what your friends think of "The TOP."

If that is the same church from Atlanta that won the Verizon choir challenge for peoples choice and best large choir, then I will say this. When I saw that, I was so pleased and proud to say they are "the same UPC I feel at home with." I told someone on the Christian gun owners forum to watch that, because it was a wonderful representation of what my own church choir is like, and THAT is Pentecost. Not some hillbilly hodunk backwoods snake handling "Pentecost" church like some of those particular baptists seemed to think we are. I was amazed at how much alike that choir and our own are.
(I'm sure we are on video somewhere if someone wants to verify, we've been honored to sing at two general conferences.)

He asked about sending someone to a UPC church and asked what Brother Huntley and his church was like. I told him. I am NOT UPC and do not even subscribe to what all WH teaches but I do respect him in that he does believe it with all his heart and as far as having a great UPC church - he does have that.
Why do we have to just pull things out of the hat and beat people to death on here over NOTHING! We have ALL said and done crazy things in the pulpit and for many of them - I am sincerely sorry. I wish I could go back and undo many of the things I said and did - but it is water under the bridge and all I can do now is to do better and move forward. I am sure WH did not mean any harm in the statements he made. I have heard the best of them slip up and say things that they should not have said.
I agree. I will also say I have heard my pastor say a comment much like the "long nosed Jews" comment referenced earlier. He was preaching about the pharisees as they looked down their noses at Jesus, judging him.
Jesus was a Jew, the Apostles were Jewish. There was no insult to Jewish people, but to the pharisees, "looking down their long judgemental noses at the savior." I know Wayne Huntley. My grandmother voted him in when I was 2. I call foul. The comment was used out of context and purposefully misrepresented.

If these people want a UPC church in Raleigh - I would send them to Brother Huntley's.
The statement that JG left the UPC over WH being elected is a bunch of bull. It simply did not happen. I have preached for both of them and they are good men. I don't agree with either of them on many things - but one thing for sure - they are good men and a person looking for a good UPC or strong conservative church should go to Brother Huntley's and serve the Lord and the Church. JMHO!
This man speaks the truth. Bro. Huntley and Bro. Godair have held many roles in leadership in NC through the years. That comment is like saying George W left office because Clinton beat his daddy.

uhhh, no, his term was up, they were completely unrelated events.
My pastor was even approached by the Godairs to seek his opinion on the whole TV thing and what he felt about joining/forming the new org.
They KNEW Bro Huntley did not agree with some of the changes.
He told them, "If your ship develops a leak, you don't jump overboard, you work on repairing the leak. Thank you, but no, I'll stay."

Atlanta Bishop, thank you for your comments, and clarity of mind.

In the same message he also said that he doesn't want his whole church to follow standards either because he needs some decoys so that those they are trying to convert don't feel out of place.

It was the first time I ever heard someone admit what I had seen for a long time in the UPC and that is that the true beliefs are hidden until they feel like they can ease them in and convert after the person has made friends and feels more pressure from the group to conform.
You think huh? Interesting. You don't know for sure? But are willing to portray it as if he really did say it? Let me tell you what I DO know, for a fact.

Wayne Huntley was asked the question, "So do you think only your UPC people are going to heaven?"
He replied "No, in fact I'm not so sure all of us are going."

Where'd I hear this from? Right from his own lips.

I do know he has stood behind a pastor from one of the other "big three" apostolic orgs who has started a church in Raleigh.
He had him in our church, he specifically said "I believe God wants to give Raleigh a revival so big that one church cannot contain it, we are all Gods people and there is no competition for the souls in Raleigh."

I sat right there and heard it, I met the new pastor. The youth and some of the families are quite close to some of ours, and attend events together.

Decoys?
Is that why he preaches that we won't win our city by looking acting and talking just like our city? That as Christians we SHOULD be set apart, we should LOOK,act, and talk different. Or that Raleigh is used to going to churches where they cant tell the regulars from the visitors. When they come here they need to see we ARE different. Is that why we have an annual Holiness seminar to examine and study WHY we do what we do, WHY we have the standards we do? Is that why there is such a focus on LOVE instead of LAW and understanding that if one Loves Gods Holiness, there is no issue of "law" because it becomes an honor?

Yes, he has said that we will not convert folks by preaching down their thoughts about getting rid of their TVs, and make up, and all the "standards," We convert them by preaching Jesus. Yes, he says that we should live Holy out of love, not law. Yes, he preaches that there is a greater anointing on those who separate themselves from the world and seek to be Holy.

Standards are not for sinners. Standards are for people who are already born again, and want to be more like, and closer to Jesus. Will he make folks who don't like the "standards" feel unwelcome? Absolutely not, in fact, he'll flat out put a stop to anyone that does in our church.
Does he preach what the Bible says? Yep.
Does he inform what is Bible and what is personal conviction? yep.
Does he differentiate what is a heaven or hell issue and what is simply a church standard expected by those who hold positions of leadership? yep.

Why is it accepted that Wall-mart can have a dress code, but somehow the church should not for its leadership?
Guests, regulars? They will be welcomed if they come in shorts with spiked purple hair and look like they fell into a tackle box. Even if they come like that for 10 years.
They WILL HEAR the truth, and yes, our "standards" but we sure won't make them feel unwelcome just because they don't do the Hallelujah hop just like the song leader does it, or wear their hair like the pastors wife.

Is it tighter than many UPC churches? yep
Are there some that are tighter? sure

do we care? not really

I think that's a good idea personally.

The Durham church (what we've always called it) is a little stricter on some standards regarding places they visit and media content/entertainment.

All the times I've been to their non special event services they seem to be just a little more formal and not quite as loose in their music and worship.
Ive always really enjoyed Brother Godairs preaching, and could only say that his style seems a little more reserved than Bro. Huntley.

I always just felt that our church was more fun LOL, but that may very well be just personal bias.

Kenny Godair told me about this personally while sitting at dinner at a Mimis cafe.

Please try to know what you are talking about before you begin typing.
I second that.

I wasn't trying to bash the man. But those quotes really stood out to me. I am sure his church is above average and is what most UPC folks would love to be a part of.
