Elvis has left the building.

It's no fun trying to defend the indefensible.

Re: My Name is on www.wedeclare.org

I thought of this on the way home. I probably won't be able to express it in words as well as I would like to.

A few years ago my daughter attended UPC Youth Congress. She wasn't raised to adhere to UPC standards, but was raised to be modest in all things.

She shared a room with a couple other teens that were UPC. She was amazed at the amount of time they put into "dressing" for church. It was such a priority to them - thinly plucked eyebrows, clear mascara, shiny lip gloss and base applied just right so it wouldn't be noticed that they were wearing it.

She asked me who were they kidding?

I understood it, but it made no sense to her whatsoever.

Re: My Name is on www.wedeclare.org

PO - Thank you for your comments on this thread. It's refreshing to read a viewpoint that is searching out the spirit of the things versus just what is seen on the outside. I agree most of the women at GC, camps, etc. are just trying to express themselves in away that is accepted within that culture. I believe most not all want to have a right heart before God while expressing their femininity at the same time.

That being said, the hypocrisy at times is laughable especially where jewelry and other accepted forms of adornment are concerned. I don't believe most of the women are hypocritical, but the system is. I like jewelry. I don't wear it other than a wedding ring, sometimes anniversary ring, and a watch, because it's not acceptable within the UPC culture that I've chosen to remain part of. But if given my choice without the constrains of the organization Iwould probably wear a necklace / bracelet. I do NOT like accepted forms of adornment such as feathers, flowers, boas, etc. I prefer a more moderate appearance that doesn't stand out in the secular culture that I operate in on a daily basis. I believe this viewpoint is supported biblically (Phil. 4:5), but is the exact of what's expected in my church culture. Strange quandry.

Some you can't even tell it's a watch because you have to open up something to tell the time.

That's the inconsistency stuff. Just give it up and wear a bracelet - that's what they are wanting you to think it is anyway.
Many years ago, we lived in a large old house that had been turned into apartments. My wife and I lived on the second floor. We had two rooms and shared the bathroom with a woman who had a one room apartment on that floor. The third floor was three rooms. The first floor had a three room and a one room apartment. Everyone in that building was Apostolic except the woman in the one room apartment on the second floor. She was a widow and we all called her Granny. She did go to church with us once but did not go to the altar. A single (divorced) Mom named Ruby and her little girl, Theresa Mae, lived on the third floor. Her sister (Nancy) was married to Jim and they lived in the one room apartment on the first floor. Jim's Mom and Dad, Hope and Joe, lived in the 3 room apartment on the first floor. The building was owned by Sis. Maines who was the mother of Nancy's ex-husband. We did not all go to the same Apostolic Church and some times visited each other's church. Well, one day Nancy got a new bracelet. Bracelets were not acceptable in any of the churches we went to but fancy watches and rings of all kinds were. Nancy justified her bracelet because it was a "ten commandments" bracelet. It was like a charm bracelet and had a separate charm for each of the 10 commandments.

Sister, I believe that statement.

But with the bitter spirit some post with here, they'll be the first ones in hell.

Just as one who preaches separation by way of dress will be lost if they have a wrong spirit, one can have a bitter spirit and not believe or practice separation.

Both will be lost.

Man, at first I thought this was going to be one of those math questions.

Yes, the one that I saw recently was a charm bracelet with this BIG charms of everything all on it. It was justified as a watch because on of the charms was the face of a watch (working). It was loud, clangy and very much not just a time piece. It just doesn't compute.

We dressed to compete!!! Something new every time and we had to out dress everyone else - it was a game and we loved it! LOL!

So for some of us who have been around - it's not a UPC thing - by far - it's not! LOL!
no, it's not a UPC thing at all, but isn't the out dressing one another thing at GC just being like the "world"?

I wonder how many suits and dresses will be returned to stores next week after general conference?

Re: My Name is on www.wedeclare.org

Some of you need to make up your mind...

Some say the girls look like sloppy unkept kids. Then if the kids spend a bit more time looking nice, they are vain.

What gives.

You do know they are trying to not only please the Lord but also attract the attention of the opposite sex, right? Most girls spend a little bit more time in doing this, didn't yours?
