I also hate it when people tell me where to shop or not to shop. I can make those decisions myself. You do have to realize that Dobson made it a point to separate the ministry of Focus from Dobson the man. You don't have to agree with him but he shouldn't be told to be silent on politics simply because he works in ministry. The black church was where politics in church came from in America, why do you think the leaders of the civil rights movement were men like MLK jr.? It wasn't until LBJ wanted to get back at some folks in Texas that this whole no politics in church began.
Also when Jesus said Herod was a fox he wasn't saying he looked good in a speedo that was a political comment. You have to realize that the Jews were basically a captive people at that time. Even so you see Paul use his citizenship to gain an advantage more than once in his ministry.
I am not one to think we should have a theocracy, far from it, I am mostly libertarian in my views, but that shouldn't stop me from being salt and light and doing what I believe is right to affect the society I live in.

What I'm trying to say is that Dobson became a VERY active political activist in recent years and he was coming from the standpoint of righteousness and Christianity. I just don't see any biblical precedent for that. He made some outrageous comments about Barak Obama during the most recent presidential campaign. He has morphed from a practical helper of families into a very loud conservative activist.
He actually printed a list of stores that were "approved" of for Christians to shop at during the holidays. That's absurd.
True, Jesus called Herod a fox. Sly. "Tell that fox I'll keep doing what I'm doing." It was a statement of continuing the gospel and certainly if Barak Obama, or any president, tried to shut us down, we would say, "Tell that fox....". But Jesus made no effort to turn anyone against Herod, to get him to rule a certain way, to pass any bills, or for anyone to vote him out. And there's no recorded effort of any of the early church attempting to mobilize the Christian Culture to be politically active.
And that's what we have now. We have right-wing extremists who attempt to tell us that 9-11 was because of America's abortion and homosexuality.

It was started by Kirbyjon Caldwell, a GREAT pastor in the poor suburbs of Houston. There are a LOT of Christians who are sick of people like Dobson speaking for them.
