Really the only things I don't like about is the commercializtion, manifestations of greed such as people trampling each other in stores, fighting, stealing. The whole "gimme, gimme, gimme...I want some more" attitude.

I don't appreciate pagan things being called "Christian" nor do I regard it as Jesus birthday.

I treat it like I do 4th of July, I get together with family and eat and exchange gifts in a reasonable fashion. I don't decorate for it, celebrate it, look forward to it, make preparations for it.

Mostly I ignore the whole fiasco and try and stay out of everyones way.

And did I mention I like fruitcake? That is one thing I like about xmass. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find fruitcake these days?

I think the last batch was made in 1953 and they finally ran out.

I hope I can make this post without anyone feeling a need to rebut the thought. These are just my feelings after having not participated in Christmas for 15 years.

My parents were VERY angry when I first made this stand and called us in for a family meeting where my dad announced he was going to save christmas. Evidently he didn't. We discussed amicably but this is our true conviction and it is what we want to live.

My parents have since said that, while they still don't see things the way I do, you couldn't drag them kicking and screaming back to doing the christmas thing like they used to.

When viewed from where I stand it is nearly a madness that takes hold of people. I literally dread this time of year. You can't go and get a set of batteries without fighting maddening crowds. You can't hear regular contemporary christian music on the radio. It is a hassle to get anywhere or do anything.

I am so very happy to be free of the chaos. I celebrated christmas for over 30 years and this time of year is insane in many ways.

My thought that has been going through my mind this year is this. The "Christmas Spirit" is a conjured spirit. I looked up the word conjured and I am using it for lack of a better term but it is a spirit that is worked up.

I remember years when I was not able to "get into" the christmas spirit. It is a built up, self constructed spirit that is temporary, generally financially costly and fleeting. People fighting over toys... bumping elbows & shoulders and fighting to get to that sale... it drives me up a wall.

As a thread I started a week or so ago stated... Come on December 26th. Life returns to normal on that day.

Its still funny.

Re: The Unofficial Anti-Christmas Thread

here's a qoute from a pagan:

"On Yule last year, the birth of the baby God came into my meditation very strongly. It made so much sense to me why the Christians decided to use that time."
