You know, it's a legitimate point. I've never said, "Timmy, would you?" So what about it Timmy? Without giving me an absolute answer, would you ever be interested in being on our church board, knowing what you know about our church?
Unfortunately, boards are required in the U.S. I say "unfortunately" because it often ends up being a bad situation.
Your church would be one of the only ones I would consider! But would I actually consider it, if I lived close enough (or if remote meetings would work)? I'd really have to think about it. And probably learn more about the church, and the job description.

And just kiddin'. Let the conversation continue, as if I hadn't said that. IOW, knowing what you know about me, would you? And as now mentioned in the other thread, what Biblical principles would you use to say no (if you'd say no)?
Oh, I have one! "What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?" But everyone here who doesn't have me on ignore is already in violation of that one.

First thing I'd do on your board is make a motion to fire Timmy from the board.
Scripture used for not placing Timmy on the board when he doesn't want to be on it: 2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind... 1 Peter 5:2 ...not by constraint, but willingly...

Prooftexting extraordinaire, but anyway...

If you're not aware, "Timmy" is a poster on AFF that describes himself as an "Agnostic" or a "Deist" with leanings toward being a "Deist." He comes from a pentecostal background.
I like Timmy. He's kind, gentle, understanding, non-confrontational, knows the bible very well, dependable, and consistent. Recently, I had a personal crisis that could have been devastating, and Timmy was one of the first I contacted. I didn't ask him to pray but I said, "If you ever would, I could sure use it." I trust him.
He also has a great understanding of the church and how it operates. He sees the power of community and has some great perspectives of the redemptive potential of the church. I haven't asked what he does for a living but I get the impression his business sense is very good.
So I once told Timmy I wish he lived here in my area and would love to have him in our church (we openly embrace those who don't wear the label of "Christian") and if he did I'd have him on our church board.
I mentioned it in another thread today and that idea didn't exactly go over very well.
So....what do you think. Would you have him on your church board considering the qualities I mentioned?
Timmy is a great man, I am sure and really believe due to my chats with him. But he does not believe the bible is God's Word, and does not have faith in the salvation shown in the bible by Jesus Christ, so I would not think of having him on my church board. He just does not disagree with me, but disagrees with the bible. But I know I would enjoy friendship with him in person.

"Many Christians do not try to understand what was written in a verse in the Bible. Instead they approach the passage to prove what they already believe."
