Smile As a child, "What did it sound like to you?"

I'm sure this subject has probably already been discussed on AFF. ..... “Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.” Ecclesiastes 1:10, KJV.

But, being new on AFF let me give it a try. When I was a child many of the songs that we sang didn't come across to me like they did to the adults. For instance, we sang a song which had this line in it, "In that city where the Lamb is the Light, In that city where there cometh no night. I have a mansion over there that is FREE FROM TOIL AND CARE, in that city where the Lamb is the Light."

Well, as a child I thought they were singing, ".....I have a mansion over there that is FREE FROM TOILET CARE, in that city where the Lamb is the Light."

Can you add any more to this? What did you hear?

Re: As a child, "What did it sound like to you?"

My Mom tells of how she couldn't understand why at church they were singing "Bringing in the sheets".

As you probably know they were singing "Bringing in the Sheaves".

That'd make me want to go there!

I heard a story of a lady who thought "I am determined to hold out to the end" was "I am a turnip with a hole down through the end." She refused to sing the song because it was stupid.

Welllllllllll, I wouldn't take nuthin' for my jersey cow,
gotta make it to the barn somehow
tho the devil tempts me and he tries to turn me around...

And........
Temptations, hidden snares,
often take our underwear.
and our hearts are made to bleed
for each thoughtless word or deed.
and when we wonder why the test
when we try to do our best
but we'll understand it better by and by.

I used to sing at the top of my lungs: "Olive oil, olive oilllll, through eternity! O-li-ive oil!"

Re: As a child, "What did it sound like to you?"

A friend of mine had a three-year-old son that sang "Friend of God" by Israel as

"I am afraid of God
I am afraid of God
I am afraid of God
He calls me names"

He was so bewildered when she told him the real lyrics!

Re: As a child, "What did it sound like to you?"

As teens, we used to sit in church and search our Bibles during the sermon. We were looking for any passages in scripture that could be construed as "off color" or nasty. LOL. You'd be amazed at how many there are!! Especially if you are a young teen. At that stage in life, everything could be considered shady if you think about it long enough. Weren't we awful!
