I'm a senior in college and we have to do a semester long project for our Computer Science seminar. If can be pretty much anything from designing and writing software to doing research on a computer science topic.
(I also have a strong background in math and would like to tie math into whatever project I choose but this isn't a requirement it's just a preference so any ideas even without math are still great)
It was an ancient machine for calculating lunar cycles and other time-related stuff. The fact that someone could build this 2000+ years ago is staggering.
It would certainly put your math skills to work. And give you points for originality.

Reason: spelling
A few years ago, we were trying to sell our house, and it just wasn't getting much interest. I had the idea of making it stand out a bit in the listings, by making the last 3 digits of the asking price 777. Not sure if it worked or not, but it was sold within a couple of months, if I recall. Oh, and we started seeing copycats in the listings, too!

Hmmm... I'm hoping to sell and move within a year... I'm going to remember that trick!
