There is near-by poverty at a lot of cruise ports-of-call, in the Caribbean and other areas. One ship we were on had a program where volunteers on the crew would visit a particular orphanage (maybe more than one, not sure) and take supplies and gifts for the kids. Thought that was pretty cool.

There's a lot good that goes on that seems to always be below our radar.

I had a dentist who was a sailing enthusiast. He had photos of his catamaran in various exotic locations. I really though he had it made, and he does.

But it also turned out that on each vacation he'd load up with supplies and sail to needy areas in Polynesia and do free dental work for the people there. It was kind of cool. He usually would talk other colleagues into joining his group.
