It takes two tones, so we need to whistle the right tones as a duet. 852/1477 Hz, 697/1209 Hz, 697/1209 Hz is 9-1-1.

Re: Gabby's

Timmy...it's a bit scary that you even KNOW that about DTMF tones.

Re: Gabby's

I learned about clicking to dial a phone in college. Someone showed me how to click dial out on a wall phone that only took incoming calls (there was no dial or keypad if I remember right after all these years). If a person click dialed, they could call long distance to wherever for free. I never did it, but others did. That was before everyone had to dial an area code to dial out... to call anyone locally you dialed the last four digits only. It was a small town and not as up-to-date as many.

I had to look up DTMF phone to figure out what Timmy was talking about. Never thought of whistling to my phone...

We haven't really tried it yet. Don't know if it will work. The tones are supposed to be sine waves, and whistles are probably a lot more messy than that, I think. Will give a full report.

Re: Gabby's

If it doesn't work, would a keyboard or piano chord work?

Hey, I bet a keyboard could be made to work. The tones aren't official musical notes, though, I think. Would need some tweaking.

But whistling would be more fun (and impressive).

Re: Gabby's

If you could find the right notes on a keyboard, you could mimic them in your whistle though. Every musical note has a specific wave pattern that can be mathematically computed. I was thinking that on a keyboard, since a note can be held indefinitely, wave pattern would be precise. Then you could practice holding your whistle to the same tone or wavelength. If you have a keyboard or piano and your son wants something to work on and you aren't there for duet, maybe this would be an alternative for a few hours, anyway. If not, it might be calculated theoretically by using the type of equations in the website below:
