I believe it is saying that however we could possibly be "useful" to someone. That is how I am reading it. We already know to be kind, it seems to mean a little more, IMO. I also believe, and I know you would agree, we should use discretion and wisdom in these matters.
Jamieson, Fausset & Brown says, opportunity would be "As thou art able, and while thou art able, and when thou art able."
Let's look at it from a woman's point of view. I think we speak our opinion from experience, most times. I am taking the vehicle in for service. I have two good, skilled mechanics to choose from. One is a Christian and one is not. If I walk into the Christian man's shop, I don't have to listen to certain types of music or see certain types of calenders. Problem solved - I choose the Christian. I've been around my share of mechanics, Michael. I like a clean grease monkey, generally. Being a man, it may not be that important to you.

The assumption here seems to be that all non-Christian mechanics will have devil music and pictures of naked, or near naked women hanging on their walls.
Not in my experience.
Either way, this is a debate that we will never resolve, I just like to play devil's advocate sometimes. I concur with what others have said, I've been cheated worse by Christians in my life time than non-Christians, by a long shot.
Doesn't mean all Christians are dishonest, and it doesn't mean that all non-Christians are honest. I think you just have to take it case by case.
