I haven't really ever heard that either... but my ex did pray after my father's funeral...well after the dinner. He wouldn't eat, just kept crying. He was backslidden and he sobbed through the whole funeral. One of the preachers referred to who was going to carry on the torch so to speak... I thought I was going to have to pick him up off the ground.
I have seen funerals though where they flat just had church..shouting, dancing and all. I never did understand that exactly. I did feel a beautiful spirit at my dad's, and others, but to have a hoe down??

I've seen numerous baptisms in Jesus Name and have seen people receive the Holy Ghost right in front of the casket during an altar call. Also 99% of the homegoings I go to end up in a Praise Break with shouting and running down the aisles (both church members and family) Actually, most of these type of services have been better than Sunday morning worship. So, from my perspective, this was all cultural, have not been to a caucasian funeral as of yet so I cant speak on how that cultre conducts funerals.
In essence, funerals are cultural, and if the family permits "whatever" you see in the pulpit, its up to you to either stay or just pay your respects and leave.

I have seen this... kids of the deceased, shouting, dancing... the whole nine yards, in front of the casket... and they were white. Happens all the time in the church I used to attend. (not the one i was raised in)

If I knew that when I died my funeral would be in a church like that AND I agreed to it, I would have no problems.... but if it happened during a service where I knew the person would not....errrrr... exactly approve, I would walk right out (and probably make a scene in the process on purpose).

Re: Is the YELLING necessary @ a funeral
I think that there is a profound difference between yelling and preaching. I have been in services where the "speaker" yelled the entire time, didn't understand a single thing that was said; it was all show. Some think the louder they are the more impact their words will have on the receiving end. My Uncle Pastored for years and when God called him home, the service was referred to as a "home going" service by my Aunt, no one was to wear black, everyone was to wear white; as these were my uncles wished. There was crying, however, it was depressing as I've seen many funerals. We praised God and there was preaching, but no yelling. The focus was on salvation, living a godly life, and the eternal life that we have through Jesus Christ. Choirs sang and there was a beautiful presence of the Holy Spirit there. As PraiseHymn pointed out culture does play a role in how things are done. I will say this that some funerals/home goings (whichever term you use) can go for too long. Someone said they left one service because it was over 3 hours!!!
One must be conscientious of the family and not just the person that passed on. I will say that I have never attended a funeral where there was not an "invitation" to accept Christ; but this was handled just as it was during any church service. If there was yelling as DAII described I too would walk out. I don't believe that one is obligated to stay.

I would rather hear a speaker speak in a conversational tone that I could understand than to hear all the hollering and gasping for air I've heard over the years.

I figure, if you don't have a message that ministers to people in the time of their greatest need then you probably don't really have a message at all.

Re: Is the YELLING necessary @ a funeral
Does this mean that whoever does not run, jump, shout, or yell during an "apostolic pentecostal" funeral service is dead ???
