Re: FL Woman starves to death during fast

Here's another fast we did. Our district cancelled Sheaves For Christ one year and decided to get spiritual instead of raising money.

Section 4 was the champion with a total of 16,922 days fasted. Sis. Jemima was the champion with 313 days fasted in 1977. She was my aunt. My Aunt Jemima made the most amazing maple syrup. She was presented with a trophy at District Camp meeting. Sis. Betty Crocker finished second. She was from our church. That gals scalloped potatoes were the best.

I ate twinkies the entire time. I gained 82 pounds that year and nobody believed my claim of 206 days, so I wasn't awarded a trophy.

I didn't catch it the first time, and I don't believe it. I would think that's two service times. Not a 9-hour service.

From experience there is usually a 3 to 4 hour buffet break in between the two services.

No one has ever treated me badly for not fasting (or fasting as much). I think every Christian should be encouraged to fast, just as they are encouraged to pray. It isn't about a guilt trip, or at least, it shouldn't be.

Oh come on, what planet were you born on?? 98% of everything I ever heard in those days was based on guilt trips!! The other 2% was flat-out fear!!!

I can believe it of some pastors. I've heard the guilt trips laid out for prayer time, which is something else people should do of their own accord. I don't consider it a guilt trip for the pastor to say, "We need as many as possible to show up and pray this week!" I DO consider it to be a guilt trip for someone to say, "If you're spiritual, you'll be here." LOL!

yes. felt ashamed. 45 minutes in church twice a month is more than enough for me.

Yep. Sounds like one of the most Pentecostal churches around!

Separate subject.....I'm not crazy about corporate prayer meetings. Inevitably, it produces spiritual pride for those who attended and guilt trips for those who didn't. And I don't see much of anything about them in the bible, expect people who were friends that gathered when there was something major going on.

Throughout scripture, prayer is very much a private thing.
