I had a computer program with quotes, stories, etc to use and found a version of the quote shown above....
My sweet mother was so supportive, saying "amen" every few seconds
I said - I have 3 points to begin with.
#1 Everyday there are thousands of people lost, dying and going to hell...
"Amen"
My second point is .... *pause* *stood for a moment, not sure if I should continue or not*
"Just say it, son" *well alrighty then*
My second point is that regardless of that fact, we live as though we don't give a d about it... (I said the d word, not the s word)
*There was absolute silence. Not one "amen" or "just say it" from my mother; and from behind me, I heard my father exclaim ... "What did he just say!?!"*
#3 Most of you here are more upset that the pastors son just said d than you were when I said there are thousands lost, dying and going to hell."
So....I didn't preach for a while after that, a little over a year actually. Several elders were upset at my choice of language from the pulpit. They thought I wasn't taking the responsibility of delivering the message seriously and just trying to make a point.
My father never said anything about it to me.
Somewhere in my parents library is a videotape of that mini-message. Good times...

I don't think it was a year before you preached again and I never heard any talk about. I think they considered 'the source' and the fact that you were young and wanted to make a bold statement. Had there been negative talk about it by any of the 'elders' your father would have had a talk with you - I'm sure you know that. @ : )
