I like Timmy. He's kind, gentle, understanding, non-confrontational, knows the bible very well, dependable, and consistent. Recently, I had a personal crisis that could have been devastating, and Timmy was one of the first I contacted. I didn't ask him to pray but I said, "If you ever would, I could sure use it." I trust him.

He also has a great understanding of the church and how it operates. He sees the power of community and has some great perspectives of the redemptive potential of the church. I haven't asked what he does for a living but I get the impression his business sense is very good.

So I once told Timmy I wish he lived here in my area and would love to have him in our church (we openly embrace those who don't wear the label of "Christian") and if he did I'd have him on our church board.

I mentioned it in another thread today and that idea didn't exactly go over very well.

So....what do you think. Would you have him on your church board considering the qualities I mentioned?
His major contribution to you board would be:

Oh well, get the idea....LOL

Would I put Timmy on my church board?

No. He does not currently fit our qualifications. The Bible is clear about not laying hands on anyone too quickly. That is referring to granting them leadership or laying on of hands for commissioning or ordination etc. Simply, we are to know those who labor among us. This has nothing to do with legalism but is simply following clear biblical guidelines. It is not fair to put people into leadership positions when they have not been properly trained to handle these leadership situations.

Timmy is a great guy and if he would demonstrate leadership qualities and has a life which glorifies the Lord, he would then be considered for leadership.

That is how we roll! Others may do it differently and that is their prerogative.

And I should have been more clear when I started this thread. Our board would not be considered a "Leadership" board, but more of an "advisory" board, similar to how we would use a lawyer. Actually, I ended up saying that eventually in this thread, but I wanted to clarify it again.

I understand using a lawyer for their professional opinion.........and what professional opinion would you use Timmy for?

How would you use a lawyer on your advisory board?

We probably wouldn't but I compared our board climate to that of an advisory role of a lawyer.

Timmy is very reliable in the areas of ethics, honesty, the administrative workings of a church, identifying qualified employees....and I'm certain, from what I know, that he would be very skilled in staying totally up-to-date with IRS codes and liability issues, which I'm sure you know, is extremely important, and even critical in California (crazy law state). He's very smart, learned, has a good heart, and if I ever needed anything, he's one of the first...maybe THE first...I'd call.

And you know this about Timmy solely based upon your internet relationship with him?

So, you've met and have a relationship other than the internet?
