...
I can name every starter and most of the bench from the 74-78 "Big Red Machine". Joe Morgan, 1975-76 MVP, was my favorite.
Our kids were still home at that time and we got to one of the playoff games in Cincinnati one year. I don't even remember which year. I may have this all wrong but I think it was the one where the pitcher "Moose" threw a wild pitch allowing the Reds to score the winning run that took them to the Series. The kids have since moved out and have kids of their own and I don't pay any attention to the Reds any more.
But, it truly was "The Big Red Machine" back then with Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, George Foster, Cesar Geronimo, Ken Griffey Sr., and Davey Concepcion. Of course Sparky Anderson was considered "The Main Spark." I always thought I'd preach on how we should serve God with the same fervor that Pete Rose played baseball with but that sermon never happened. Pete Rose is still "big" in Cincinnati and many of us think he should be in the Hall of Fame.

Bob Moose, Pittsburgh Pirates. If Pete Rose isn't put in the Hall of Fame, they should burn the place down. And Shoeless Joe Jackson has to go in, as well.
There was also Dan Driessen, Joel Youngblood who eventually went to the Mets, I believe. And then George Foster came along in hit 52 homers in '77 when it was a BIG deal to hit 50. And when they traded for Tom Seaver?? I was walking on clouds!!!
I know WAY more about this stuff than I should! You can tell what I was doing when I was supposed to be studying for bible quizzing!

BTW, NoW really did pick up the tab, after my lame attempt to grab the check, but I didn't dance. (Well, maybe "on the inside" a little. )
I didn't mean to actually grab it, though. I was just going to do the obligatory, "Oh, let me pay." But Timmy let go of it WAY too easily, so I got stuck with it. I didn't have gas to get home after I paid the bill. I had to stand at Chevron for 3 hours trying to collect gas money from people.

Doh! I thought I had better technique. It's supposed to make 'em think I tried really hard.
