I think there are a lot of things that could be done if they wanted to do it. I don't have a list somewhere, but it only seems logical to me that knowledge is power.

none of this data they would have from this stuff would help in brain washing anyone. if they wanted to ruin your reputation they could just lie. knowing that data isn't going to help anyone control you. Knowledge is power in its applicable realm. Knowing that fish have gills don't tell me nothing about whether they eat other fish or eat algae. Knowing what you spend money on isn't going to help identify anything else other than what you might spend money on in the future. Knowing who you call isn't going to help me figure out anything other than who you might call in the future.

Well, I guess we have a difference of opinion on this. I just think some thought about it is in order. It's not like there is scientific data about how much this might matter or not. It is all unprecedented.

... I think its a silly waste of time. You're not even speculating. You can't even offer one possible scenario of what anyone could do with this information that they couldn't just as easily do without it. I mean you want us to think about them having "data" on us... I say so what if they have data on us... they can't do anything with the kinds of data they will have.

What I'm saying is I am bringing it up as an interesting topic. I have done some looking into the topic, but all you are doing is naysaying the topic. Anybody can do that. I have brought up that history bears out that people use power in the wrong way. That's a simple fact. Power in the hands of the wrong people is dangerous. That is also a simple fact. Since you want data, look it up, then come back and tell me why I'm wrong. I have a feeling if I spent a bunch of time bringing data you would wave your hand and say "nah". I am not trying to PROVE anything. Nothing can be proven at this point except the simple fact that it pays to be thoughtful about the ramifications of what we are doing, which is unprecedented.

I've never said bad people don't use technology in evil ways. What I've said is that there is no way to use the data they have available for anything evil. Well, unless they want to round up and inprison everyone that shops at walmart at 2am in the morning. Or maybe they could round up and inprison any guy that spends more than 10 minutes on the phone with any unrelated guy. Those are really about the only types of things they could do.
