Do you think that's even remotely possible? I think this is exactly what Paul was speaking of in I Corinthians 14 when he talked about refraining from certain activities because we would never want those who are outside the faith to think we're insane.
I am sure that it could happen. Not sure that it did, but with God all things are possible....

Again, I agree with your assessment. It was my own.
But I had to stop and think about this as a situation larger than the girl. God may ask you or I to do something ridiculous. Would we do it or reason it out?
That is a good thought really. I mean I know at times God has given me a VERY clear word for people and I didn't give them and it was good thing cause I might have gotten smacked-and the word would have been right for them. Once I was walking our chuch and our back wall to the santuary is lined with windows so in the lobby you can see in the sanctuary. I saw the back of a ladies head while she was sitting and God spoke EXTREMELY clear and said tell her I know what she has been doing with that man and I will forgive her because I have a plan for her. Well no way was I going to tell any girl that, but I had no clue she was from behind. Turns out that it was a lady that used to go to our church and had been gone a long time. The music started and she stood up and was PREGNANT!!!!! Now had I told her what God told me I might have gotten smacked or something but that was a word that I told God to give to a women to tell her. I hope he did. I try to think that far ahead as to not do anything to point anyone away from God and try to point them toward Him.

Did he really? I had the same impression Prax did...I thought the AG "system" distanced themselves from it. Interesting.
They may have, for the most part. That endorsement I mentioned may be the only, or one of the few, such public statements. The AG is known for being slow to take a stand or take action, when it comes to its member churches.
The General Secretary, George Wood (now the General Superintendent), wrote an article in 1995 (same year the revival started) denouncing the "laughing revival", without naming Brownsville (I think the article actually came first, anyway), though he did mention the Toronto Blessing, which is said to have spawned Brownsville revival. And there is a 1949 official AG denouncement of the Latter Rain, never rescinded, though largely ignored now-a-days.

In the right context yes....all things are possible. I don't see this as the context of "All things". It's like someone saying, "I can do all things through Christ", when in reality, Paul was speaking of his ability to persevere through difficult financial situations.

One thing is for sure...there's plenty of weirdness to go around for everyone!
I don't remember reading about the AG denouncement or distancing from Brownsville.
I do remember the Airport Vineyard. Some people from our local Vineyard went up there. At first the Vineyard organization/denomination Leadership's attitude was supportive. I think one of the leaders even wrote favorable stuff about it. Then as it progressed they fell out of favor with Vineyard leadership and were disfellowshiped. As a result of that action by Vineyard leadership toward the Airport Vineyard, several other congregations left the Vineyard organization. I think that was when the Kansas City Vineyard left the Vineyard organization.
This is a case of over-zealousness, but not pure stupidity. I refuse to participate in shredding her prayer or over-analyzing her actions. We've all been guilty of doing the right thing at the wrong time, or making poor judgment calls. Oh--maybe that was just me--Sorry.
Am I the only person who has truly been pressed upon by God to say or do something, but forgot to temper it with His wisdom?
I expect zeal from young people. Sometimes it works out, and other times they end up looking silly. Either way, it's not the death knell--although it COULD be the death of this girl's walk with God if her well-intentioned ambition is slammed too hard by fellow Christians.
Do we only appreciate boldness if someone is able to walk away looking cool and suave? I'm not sure God would share that view. We need to be very careful about judging these things. Just because WE feel awkward or uncomfortable about something doesn't mean God does. And just because people in the audience felt awkward or uncomfortable doesn't mean God did.
Have you ever been the one who had to bail "some of the brothers" out of jail because they were arrested for "just doing what Jesus told us to do?"
Ever try and get someone out of a psych ward after they were forcibly admitted for "just weeping over the sins of the city?"
It does get old after a while. And, you are left to wonder... no one was saved, no one was "warned of impending doom" or anything like that. Nothing came of it but everlasting shame and humiliation. Nothing at all.
Well, I did learn a few things. Some others did as well... I think. At least they don't do that kind of stuff any more.

Always refreshing to know that the Almighty's grace doesn't fail based on our performance in those moments. He chooses and is Sovereign and will reach her. But I know what you mean!! Scary moments!

I was just recently reading some AOG historical docs. They certainly distanced themselves eventually. There was a big name involved in that. I'll need to look it up. The "holy laughter" and "falling out" and barking noises was a little over-the-top.

This generation would call Peter or Paul a psych probably too. They'd incarcerate a person claiming to be the Messiah (unlike a more cultic and imperial time when they accused him of blasphemy against both God and the King). I know those characters you speak of. Hard to convince them otherwise. Definitely not a carte blanche endorsement of this type of behavior.

Pel...I grew up in a pastor's home. Don't you think I've encountered my share of extremism, to put it politely?
I just don't feel comfortable ripping on people like that, even if I agree they're misled. Some things God has to handle. If I think someone did something maliciously, it's a different matter. But ignorance or too much zeal? Can't really be helped--especially from a distance.
Another thought--when we get embarrassed by the actions of another Christian, our first instinct is to stomp them into the ground so that other people won't think we're like them. I understand it, but we need to put our pride aside and evaluate why we feel that way before we react too strongly.
Just sayin'.
