I actually preached on this subject before. Drive-by evangelism and punch-card faith (clocking in good deeds to beef up the spiritual bank account).

I'd like to hear more about this....

I'm not sure we know if this girl is the "cooky loon" that is a little "off" on campus. None of us really know her or the situation. She didn't sound particularly dim. With exception of the in-your-face, yet subtle prayer accompanied with shaking and collapsing that is

I think we can all agree that the girl's prayer didn't end with her looking dignified, to say the least.
That doesn't mean it was a worthless effort, unappreciated by God, and it most certainly doesn't mean (as NoW implied) that she is somehow tearing down His kingdom.

Let me tell you something--I avoid "testifying" because I usually hyperventilate and actually shake with nerves if I have to speak in public. Singing I can do--no nerves there. But ask me to SAY something? Lord, help--you may as well just go ahead and knock me to the floor. LOL!!!! It's getting better, but if I don't carefully get into the proper zone or relax, I can't breathe and talk at the same time.
I guess I could see how she could be overwhelmed with nerves and stage fright and collapse in a trembling heap on the floor. You don't need scripture to understand a very human reaction, for Pete's sake.
You are being way too hard on this girl, NoW. You're all about showing compassion to sinners; be just as kindhearted to your brothers and sisters in Christ. They are bound to mess up. What's crazy is, you seem more inclined to show mercy if a Christian falls into sin than you are over this situation. I think you need to rectify that situation.
The other video is a different matter, IMO, but it reflects badly on that church's leadership--not on the girl in the video. Weird things going on there, and we all agree on that.
|
The bolded...I won't deny that and you could very well be right. I'm a sucker for messed up people. And at the same time, I have very little tolerance for Christians who do damage by overdoing things. And I won't deny that I need to fix that and you're not the first one to say that to me, so your point is taken, for sure.
I don't think it was nerves that got the girl. I might be wrong, but you're right, I'll temper my feelings by bringing that into the equation. It strongly appears that she has been overcome by a "spiritual striking" of some sort, and I believe that because she actually prayed for a while with no problem. She was very firm for a while.
I wrote previously, not sure if you saw it, that I think the responsibility of her actions lies more with her spiritual influences than on her. There's no way, in my opinion, that she just did this out of nowhere.

You may be right--I'm sure whether it was someone else's idea or not, it has at least been modeled.

Modeled would be my choice.

Question, does that mean that as Peter was having a vision or was "in a trance", he had control over that?
What about Daniel when he fell dead at the angels feet?
Another question, assuming it's all of the Spirit, have we become conditioned to act a certain way when we feel the Spirit moving? You know the found Spirit filled congregations in Russia who never shouted, danced or whatever....yet they were all Spirit filled, speaking in tongues etc etc....they couldn't shout or dance then. They had to be very reserved unless they were caught

- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

My goodness. I forced myself to watch it because I thought I needed to learn something. But by the 4:40 mark, the first tear trickling down my face showed up. It just hurts to watch this stuff. How could anyone.....
What have we (humanity) done to the gospel of Jesus Christ? I kept hearing, "In Jesus' name" and it made me hear the words of Jesus, that even though some will cast out devils in His name, still He will have never known them.
The thing I learned is how incredibly similar other religions are in this respect. That was very interesting.

To be honest I don't know where it is or if it is in the Bible. Neither is running the isles, leaping, whistling, or some other forms of worship or body movements while in the spirit-as far as I know. It might be neurological and then again it might not be. None of us know for sure really.
