Ideal government

What would the ideal government look like, here and now, in a real-life country? I'm sure nobody thinks a perfect government is really possible, but there's nothing wrong with setting up an ideal, as a good goal, is there? So, go ahead. Make one from scratch. See what we get!

Would it be based on Christian principles? What kind of laws would there be? How would crime be dealt with? How would leaders be chosen?

Personally I wish they would follow the Constitution the way most dedicated believers follow the bible...

Is the US Constitution ideal (if it was followed)? Any room for improvement?

The best government for what? What is the purpose of an ideal government?

Fair question. Maybe that's the first question to discuss! What should be the purpose of government? Does the Bible have anything to say about this question?

The way I see it, the Bible does say a lot about how we humans are supposed to interact with each other. A government is nothing more than a particular set of humans (and rules -- a constitution, laws, regulations) whose job it is to oversee those interactions. Shouldn't the Bible's guidelines be followed? Should Biblical principles be used to make laws, etc.?

Then I guess a democracy is out of the question. Though a republic still has a chance...

Re: Ideal government

I don't think the church should be involved in the political process. The church should should be focused on the expansion of the message of Jesus Christ.

History shows us that the greatest times for the church was when they were persecuted by government.

Why shouldn't the church be involved in politics? And how does involvment in politics mean that the church isn't focusing on the message of Jesus Christ?

Also, the greatest times for the church do not correspond to persecution. Christianity in the middle east? I don't see Christians there experiencing the greatest time of the church...

The bible says that most people are unrighteous. Also, most Christians seem to agree that many people in America are not Christian. So if we have a democracy (majority rule) doesn't that mean that the majority laws are going to be made by non-Christians after non-Christian principles?
