St.Paul's letters are words & principles that he wrote to people in a very different time, place, & culture. Can we read them and find comfort, encouragement, guidance....absolutely!!

But if I believe in and follow St.Paul....I still die in my sins. When it comes to "heaven & hell" doctrines....I only trust Jesus for those.
So...Paul's words were his own? Following this logic, we should throw out everything but the red letters. Hmmmm....

It was a joke. Come on, man. I know that his hair alone didn't cause his downfall. I'm ignorant, but not that ignorant!

You only trust Jesus for those? Which book/chapter in the bible did Jesus write?

Why should we obey the Ten Commandments and not 1 Cor. 11?

I won't deny the 'we have no such custom' debate, but why would Paul make such a bold statement such as "Doth not even nature teach you" and then go on to say, "Ignore what I just wrote. We have no such custom."
I didn't say anything about ignoring Paul's letters. I said we should take them in context. Paul didn't just pull 'grace' out of thin air. That was based on the work that Jesus did. But what, in the entire Bible, would he have based "thou shalt not cut thine hair" on? You have to take the Bible in its entirety.

I have to run now, but I'll try to come back later and explain my position on this a little better.

I don't read where they ever brushed their teeth or washed their hands after "easing themselves upon their stools." There's "no Bible" for a lot of what we do. But we're looking for eternal principles by which we can live.

What eternal principle is bound up in whether or not a woman trims her split ends? The verses that you quoted (that you "love") didn't even support your claim on this one.

So according to you, Paul's letters should've contained specific instructions for hair length.

"A man's hair is to be such and such length."

When God spoke to Moses and told him to keep the people away from the mountain, how did Moses know where the mountain started? God doesn't always deal in specifics, but He does give instruction. So, when Moses set up the boundaries, how did he know that set them up right? Well, I don't read about any people that died by touching mountain, so I guess he must've done something right.

In a way, I agree with everyone out there that is saying that we need to study scriptures like this. I have read various articles and commentaries, both for and against long hair on men/women. There are a lot of opinions out there and the only way that you're going to find the truth is to pray before you study such matters and allow God to convict you.

So, I guess what I'm saying is this. You cut your hair and I'll keep mine short. I can't make you believe like I do, but I did want to share my convictions. This is what I believe and I will continue to stand by it. Thanks for the debate though, and I am open to more discussion.

Re: Holiness Is Still Important

sorry I don't know how to copy a post when someone writes in it.

But this is in response to post # 163.

so if I feel/believe that God tells me its "ok" for a woman to cut their hair...then its ok?

without getting to deep....you do realize that men voted on what would be included in the cannon...and that our current KJV does not reflect what they first voted on.

Mark 16:16 is a great scripture...but it is NOT the only passage that teaches this principle. Also...if Jesus said "believe, be baptized, and be saved"...then do we have a right to add "don't cut your hair" to that? Also note that Jesus says nothing of baptism with He talks about condemnation....interesting.

regarding 2Tim.3:16. what is "all scripture"? Does this exclude the letters that were written after St.Paul wrote this? How about the O.T.? Does that only include the O.T. at St.Paul's time?....or does it also include ours today?
